Title: WiFi Logger - connectivity issues over the past couple of weeks
Post by: TonyLon on February 08, 2022, 12:51:24 PM
I've been using WiFi Logger in my Vantage Vue without too many issues over the past 3 years.
Occasionally it would drop off my home network but a reboot (via the white button) normally fixed it.

But in the last few days it's lost connectivity both with an external site (wunderground) as well as WeatherCat software running on a local Mac.
But strangely I can still access the local Vantage Vue pages via any browser, so I know it is visible - to some extent - on my network.

WeatherCat fails to find it at all, and I'm fairly certain that no updates are being sent out externally either.

I've reset everything from scratch but to no avail.
Everything set to default - including port number 22222

One clue might be that in the WiFi settings I see no network information (see screenshot) although it is shown as Connected. [ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Any thoughts

To me that screen shot just shows at top, where you are actually connected to, at bottom, no data for detected WiFi networks.

Hit the refresh button to see what is arond you.

Unfortunately not - Hitting the Refresh button makes no difference - no networks shown.

The logger is connecting to the strongest wi-fi network in my house ("whereswatt") but neither that one (nor 2 other networks that should be visible) show up in the list...

Unfortunately not - my setup shows very similar to yours

I had something similar. I am on CenturyLink DSL. Over the years things were fine. Then last summer things went downhill. Some wireless items including the logger acted like they were connected but no data was sent. Restarting the modem would cure it but I had to do it more and more. After lots of phone calls and being told I had too wifi items connected and I was possibly getting interference from the street lights (WTH?) I got them to send another modem... a rebuilt modem, a Zyzel 1100. One month later things got worse with hard drops. I finally got a tech to come out. He took simpathy on my problems and gave me a free Zyzel 4000. Things are now rock solid again. Even though the Ethernet connected items worked fine on both previous modems it looks like the wireless side was flaky.

But I have at least another 4 or 5 devices (phones, Smart Speakers, tablets) that have no trouble connecting to that wifi, so why the data logger has just started to run into trouble I do not know.

I had the same problem with the first modem. Not everything would drop offline. I even had the wifilogger showing Connected but not showing my network. It began to seem like the logger was more sensitive. Modem #2 was a piece of junk. Everything would go offline when it had one of it's irregular fits. Modem #3 is brand new and everything is working rock solid. Just saying not to discount your wifi modem as not being a problem. Your situation sounds similar. Everything was fine until last summer. Then the wifi and DSL dropouts became more often. 2 modems later and everything is working.

I am assuming you have restarted your modem. Also is it up high and not inside a cabinet or something ? A friend had theirs stuffed inside their computer desk down near the floor and couldn't understand why he suddenly had connection problems. It was overheating.

If you can connect to WiFiLogger web menu, then obviously wifi connection is established and working.  [tup]

If this is WiFiLogger1, the green one. Then debug window is not working like it was before, but still you can try it.
http://192.168.1.80/debug
It should print what it is doing at the moment.

In my opinion you have issue with gateway settings in your network. I had issue with some loggers where in some houses there were 2 routers, where one additional was connected as network swtich, but without DISABLEing DHCP server in it. So sometimes devices, like WiFiLogger, wanted to have Internet access from SWITCH router.

Please check in WiFiLogger in SETUP-> Network Info if NTP time was sync last time.

The debug option doesn't display anything.

Maybe nothing but mine shows a fresh sync a couple hours ago rather than 1970.
