Title: How to configure webcam on Meteobridge
Post by: galfert on March 04, 2020, 02:16:59 PM
This tread with a few following messages existed originally in a different thread. This thread was spun off and split from the original thread because this discussion went off topic. The original thread is at this link ...but really you don't really need to go there as its a different topic:
https://www.wxforum.net/index.php?topic=38907.0

Basically the background is this. mstan asked how to use the Meteobridge with his webcam. Then the following discussions took place.

Several [online services allow for uploading your webcam image]....

AWEKAS
MetOffice WOW
WeatherCloud
and WU

I feed them all my webcam with my Meteobridge. I really like the overlay weather text feature on the image.
I fed my previous webcam to WU, but I can't get WU to accept the FTP feed from my new camera, which is why I was looking for a different site to upload it to. According to FileZilla, WU is accepting my username but rejects my password.

I hadn't heard of the sites you listed, I will check them out. Thank you

Galfert I have a Meteobridge and send my data to the locations you listed but I can't figure out how to send my webcam which is a hikvision 2032. Can you provide any info or screen shots on your setup. Also Windy is accepting webcams now. Thanks.

You have to add you camera to the Meteobridge. There are several ways to do this and it depends on the capabilities of your camera. I have a Dahua clone (Q-See) camera. The method I use with this syntax probably will not work for your camera. But if you find the information on how to talk to your camera then you can use the proper syntax for your brand/model.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

The Syntax I use for my Dahua clone is this:
https://admin:MyCamsPW@192.168.1.220/cgi-bin/snapshot.cgi?channel=8&loginuse=admin&loginpas=admin

Now my image is coming from an NVR that has many cameras. Therefore the image is not coming directly from a camera. But If I had a stand alone Dahua it would be pretty similar except I could ignore the ?channel=8 part of the syntax. Also of note is that in my case channel 0 is really channel 1. Which means that in my case since I'm pulling channel 8 it is really channel 9 on my NVR.

For Hikvision use this as a staring point. There are probably other sources of information as this may not be 100% guaranteed for your exact model. This though gives you an idea of how it works:
https://www.ispyconnect.com/man.aspx?n=hikvision

There is like 16 pages of syntax to sift through in that link and find the correct one for your Hikvision. I would put my bet on this one though which is the same as Dahua. But it needs to be tested.
cgi-bin/snapshot.cgi?loginuse=[USERNAME]&loginpas=[PASSWORD]

Which translates to this as an example:
http://admin:admin@192.168.1.20/cgi-bin/snapshot.cgi?loginuse=admin&loginpas=admin

The next step after the camera is acquired in the MB is to send the image to the meteobridge.com free hosting service. Where you will later use the resulting hosting location as the address of your camera for all the various services you want your camera to show up on.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]
click on those two camera icons to get the corresponding hosting link (with and without text)

You can use the Overlay Text option if you want. There are several ways to format that overlay and you can read more about that syntax at Meteobridge online wiki
https://www.meteobridge.com/wiki/index.php/Weather_Cam_Image_Handling

In my case I'm using the following Overlay Text:
-resize 852x480 -fill black -draw "fill-opacity 0.7 rectangle 0 460 852 480" -pointsize 12 -fill orange -draw "text 5 475 '[YYYY]-[MM]-[DD] [hh]:[mm]'" -fill white -draw "text 110 475 'Temp: [th0temp-act=F.1:--] °F    Humidity: [th0hum-act.0:--] %    Pressure: [thb0seapress-act=inhg.2:--] inHg    Wind Chill: [wind0chill-act=F.1:--]°F    Wind: [wind0avgwind-act=mph.1:--] mph    Gust: [wind0wind-max5=mph.1:--] mph    Rain today: [rain0total-sumday=in.2:--] in'"

Ok I got It! It works perfect! Thanks soo much! I had missed that second step sending the image to meteobridge. I used your resize info the data all shows up in a line in the bottom but only up to the wind mph from the gust after it gets cut off.  Do you have a screen shot of your image?. Now the next step is how to send the image to the various sites. Some allow for a direct build it upload such as WU and windy but I could never get it to work.

The resize (and rectangle size) is probably something you have to play with depending on the resolution of your camera. Different cameras will require different tweaking. Mine doesn't cut off. I remember having to experiment to get it right.

You just provide them with the Meteobridge.com URL to your camera. Your choice if to use the one with the overlay text or the one without.

Wow the weather much nicer in FL lol. Yes your image is wider. What size do you start with and then after resize end up with?. Also most sites want a image of a certain size ect. Thanks!

1712 x 967 is the size of my original jpg. The only way I know that is by putting the direct camera URL (the one with the camera IP and it's username/password) into the browser and then downloading the resulting image. Then looking at the resulting file and seeing the file properties.

Looks like you are using 4:3 aspect ratio camera (often called NTSC). My camera is a 16:9 aspect ratio (wide screen HDTV)

My original image dimensions are 1712 x 967. If you divide 1712/967 = 1.77 which is 16:9 aspect ratio.
Therefore when I resized to 852 x 480 it is because then I'm maintaining that HDTV aspect ratio (852/480 = 1.77)
The data rectangle that I created with coordinate points 0 460 852 480 correspond to my overall dimensions.

In your case to resize a 4:3 aspect ratio image you can choose any size you want as long as the resulting aspect ratio maintains the 4:3 dimensions.
4/3 = 1.33
I recommend that you resize to 640 x 480 which is a 4:3 aspect ratio dimension (640/480 = 1.33)
Then your data rectangle can have the following coordinate points (the diagonal corners of the data rectangle):
0 460 640 480
Those 4 numbers correspond to the resized image at coordinate points (0,460) and (640,480). Top left and bottom right of the data rectangle.

You might want to play with the data rectangle placement to get it to look best. I think the only number you have to play with is the second which is the one that defines how low or how high the top part of the data rectangle starts at.
For example maybe 0 465 640 480 looks better.

If it still doesn't fit then there is too much text. You may then choose to reduce the amount of information shown, like maybe you take out Wind Chill temperature, or you reduce the -pointsize to something smaller than 12. But that will make the text smaller and harder to read. Up to you which of these two things to do. Another alternative is to make the data rectangle bigger (taller) and then display two lines of text. It is obvious how to make the data rectangle taller but I don't know how to display two lines of text ...nor if it is possible...I think it probably is possible [edit: it is possible]. You can dig further into the Meteobridge image manipulation examples or read about the advanced image manipulation syntax at the following link:
http://www.imagemagick.org/Usage/

Ok this is what I have it set at now and all the text still does not all fit. You can check the same link.

-resize 640x480 -fill black -draw "fill-opacity 0.7 rectangle 0 460 640 480" -pointsize 12 -fill orange -draw "text 5 475 '[YYYY]-[MM]-[DD] [hh]:[mm]'" -fill white -draw "text 110 475 'Temp: [th0temp-act=F.1:--] °F    Humidity: [th0hum-act.0:--] %    Pressure: [thb0seapress-act=inhg.2:--] inHg    Wind Chill: [wind0chill-act=F.1:--]°F    Wind: [wind0avgwind-act=mph.1:--] mph    Gust: [wind0wind-max5=mph.1:--] mph    Rain today: [rain0total-sumday=in.2:--] in'"

Yep....too much text. You need to do one of the following:

- remove a some text (like Wind Chill)
- reduce the size of the text
- figure out how to display multiple lines of text (possibly needing to make the data rectangle larger also)

I just though of something else you can do. You can crop the image (by image manipulation syntax in the Meteobridge) and make a widescreen out of your image. This means you lose some part of the image in order to make it widescreen. It will also act like a zoom in. But I don't know how to crop the image. I'm certain that this is possible. Just one other thing to dig into the documentation and to figure out.

Ok there are a few options, I could remove the time since the cam displays it as well, I would like to figure how to make two lines tho. I'll have to see about crop and zoom as well. Thanks again!

Besides removing the date/time, you can also abbreviate the text so that the line take up less space.

Temp: Hum: Pres: Wind: Rain:

Haha your a funny one. lol. You do have a point tho I could, the cam I have now is a Hikvision 2032 I think its 3mp Its a common one used for weather cams that's why I got it most sites you send a image to don't want a high res image from what I understand I never knew about aspect ratio ect. It has a decent picture tho. If I upgraded I still would want a IP cam any suggestions? Also I set up another device to upload my cam to WU via URL lets see if it works.

I figured out a way to create a second line. I have tried to send a line break and it won't work probably because I'm not doing it right. The documentation says you need to send a \n but the backslash gets removed when I save these settings. I tried every which way from putting it in quotes and other methods and nothing.

So I took a different approach to the solution. I decided to just format the text as two separate lines. Now I can add more sensors like my PM2.5.

-resize 852x480 -fill black -draw "fill-opacity 0.7 rectangle 0 440 852 480" -pointsize 12 -fill orange -draw "text 5 455 '[YYYY]-[MM]-[DD] [hh]:[mm]'" -fill white -draw "text 110 455 'Temp: [th0temp-act=F.1:--] °F    Humidity: [th0hum-act.0:--] %    Pressure: [thb0seapress-act=inhg.2:--] inHg    Wind Chill: [wind0chill-act=F.1:--]°F    Wind: [wind0avgwind-act=mph.1:--] mph    Gust: [wind0wind-max5=mph.1:--] mph'" -fill white -draw "text 110 475 'Rain today: [rain0total-sumday=in.2:--] in'"

Looks Perfect! You still have room!
Title: Re: How to configure webcam on Meteobridge
Post by: galfert on March 05, 2020, 05:54:30 PM
I didn't like the PM2.5: text followed by the air quality number. Too many numbers together and hard to pick out the actual air quality reading.

So I changed it to:
PM2.5 Air Quality: [air0pm-max5=.0] μg/m3

Now it is more legible.
I also changed the ug/m3 to μg/m3 to use the proper micro gram symbol.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Now I'm ready for the lightning sensor since I've made lots of room....

-resize 852x480 -fill black -draw "fill-opacity 0.7 rectangle 0 440 852 480" -pointsize 12 -fill orange -draw "text 5 455 '[YYYY]-[MM]-[DD] [hh]:[mm]'" -fill white -draw "text 110 455 'Temp: [th0temp-act=F.1:--] °F    Humidity: [th0hum-act.0:--] %    Pressure: [thb0seapress-act=inhg.2:--] inHg    Wind Chill: [wind0chill-act=F.1:--]°F    Wind: [wind0avgwind-act=mph.1:--] mph    Gust: [wind0wind-max5=mph.1:--] mph'" -fill white -draw "text 110 475 'Rain today: [rain0total-sumday=in.2:--] in    PM2.5 Air Quality: [air0pm-max5=.0] μg/m3'"

Thanks I have a good teacher! I was thinking of adding a PM and I could add in maybe the Solar Info. Trying to see what else is being reported. What do you think? I also need to get my webcam reporting to the other stations you mentioned. Windy is still not working I think I filled the info in wrong on there site.

I am trying to pull an image to my Meteobridge and I have 3 questions.
Anybody have an idea how to pull an image from my ReoLink RLC-410W? I know the 410 has the ability to FTP an image but I haven't found a way to have the MB pull an image.
Is it possible to FTP an image to the MB?
Is there anyway to tell if the Meteobridge has successfully acquired an image? I would like to see that MB has an image before I try to upload it my AWEKAS weather page.

Have the same Reolink camera and a MB on order, so will be interested in the reply.

On getting an image, this link and galfert's original instructions might be worth a try...

That is basically the process. Find out the URL syntax to get an image (still shot) from your model camera. Some cameras do not have this capability. Some cameras have this capability but it is not documented in the user manual, but then searching the internet for your model or brand along with the words; "URL jpg" or similar searches might yield some answers. You can also try contacting the manufacturer for more information.

I know the 410 has the ability to FTP an image but I haven't found a way to have the MB pull an image.
Is it possible to FTP an image to the MB?

The Meteobridge can only pull an image via a URL as I mentioned above. Unless the camera is a Ubiquity brand and then you can use that method in the Meteobridge to pull an image by just supplying IP/password. You cannot FTP the image to the Meteobridge.

For direct camera FTP of image to WU, be careful not to confuse your camera's capability to FTP as being the same as being able to FTP an image. Many cameras have an FTP configuration menu but that is for FTPing video (motion) and not a jpg still image. Totally different things. Besides even cameras that can FTP a still image jpg may have no way to optionally reduce the image size. WU will block an FTP image that is too big. The URL method to send image to WU I don't believe has an image limitation, but I'm not certain.

The Meteobridge can FTP the image to WU that it acquires from the camera's image URL but it will not reduce the size of the image. The Meteobridge cannot process any camera image...it just doesn't have the power (resources). When the Meteobridge sends the image to the Meteobridge.com hosting domain it also sends the Overlay Text. But this overlay text is not occurring inside of the Meteobridge. No graphical editing is occurring in the Meteobridge. The Meteobridge just sends the image exactly as it copies it from the camera's URL and forwards it along with the overlay text. Then the server(s) at Meteobridge.com are the ones that process the overlay text onto the image. The Meteobridge.com server(s) use an open source software called ImageMagick to do the overlay text work. You can read up about ImageMagick at their website to learn how to do image manipulation stuff and then enter those commands into the Meteobridge so that they get passed to the Meteobridge.com server(s) to do the work you want. Meteobridge.com provides you with two links to your image, with and without overlay text. You can then provide these URLs at Meteobridge.com to any website that is designed to pull an image via public URL....like WU, AWEKAS, Windy, WOW....etc. You find out what these two image links are from your Meteobridge's Weather Network tab.

Quote

Well the Meteobridge is not going to send the image to AWEKAS as I explained above. The image comes from Meteobridge.com which is where the Meteobridge sends the image. There are several ways to know that the Meteobridge has successfully processed your image.

- On the Weather Station tab the External Picture settings will have a green check box if the URL you entered is able to pull an image from your camera.
- On the Weather Network tab the Meteobridge Weather Camera upload module will have a green check mark next to Upload Interval. This module only uploads to Meteobridge.com.
- on the Live Data tab there will be a green check mark next to Meteobridge Weather Camera in the Network status showing the last upload time stamp.
- You can go the the Meteobridge.com link of your image to see the image with and without text. You get this link from the Weather Network tab by clicking on the two camera icons (with and without text).

Then you can provide the Meteobridge.com image link to any site that accepts an image URL.

CKayaks and galfert--- Thank you Thank you Thank you.
With the info you both provided, I now have my webcam up and running on my AWEKAS site. Once I had the URL to pull the image from my camera, I had forgotten to add the webcam to the Meteobridge Weather Camera network.
I gave up trying to get my webcam up on WU as WU wouldn't accept the password they gave me!!??? Maybe I will see if WU URL upload will work better than WU FTP.

Lately WU URL method has been better than FTP. There was a time when it was the other way around.

Do you have your own Weather Web Site as well?
Not yet. Bought the domain and it is just parked for now. Partly because I can't decide on a hosting company.
Last year I created this thread with a poll to get more feedback on hosting companies.
https://www.wxforum.net/index.php?topic=36893.0
But I shelved it just because I also read that personal sites are not as popular as they once were. I also know it is a time sink hole. If I get into something new then it will consume me and take away from other things. It will consume me not because it will be difficult to figure out for me, but because I'll want to endlessly tweak it and experiment with all the templates and multitude of options. So I'm waiting till I complete some other things I'm working on.

Galfert- Does your resized image work on WU? I wasn't sure where you were uploading your images.

Galfert- Does your resized image work on WU? I wasn't sure where you were uploading your images.

I'm now sending my image to all of the following:
WU
AWEKAS
MetOffice WOW
WeatherCloud
Windy

WU mentions resizing if you are sending via FTP. But I don't know if that also applies to WU URL method. I originally resized the URL on the Meteobridge.com upload because the WU URL method did not work (it didn't work for anyone for years) and I thought it would improve my chances of it ever working if the image was smaller....so I kept it that way for a long time and it still is that way now. I just kept both URL and FTP configured on WU and back then only used FTP. I left URL configured just to see if ever it would start working. Funny now it is the opposite where URL works and FTP doesn't.  All the other sites also work with my resize of 852 x 480 (which ends up being about 112KB). But I'm unsure if the resize (to make smaller) is even needed with any of these other sites I've mentioned. I have not tested with native HD resolution. Now that WU URL method seems to be working reliably I suppose I could test by removing the resize and seeing if WU stops accepting the URL method...or for that matter if any of the other sites stop accepting the image.

But if you remove the -resize you'll need to change the plotting of the Overlay Text to match the new original image size which is larger.

Thanks for the info. I did copy your image text file and then removed the -resize and found the text in the middle of the image. I will see if WU URL will accept my standard sized image and let you know.

FYI- No WU joy- I put galfert's resize statement on my image and I created a URL based webcam device on WU. I pointed it to my webcam image on the Meteobridge site. After 4 days my webcam device still indicates it is "OFFLINE" and no webcam image appears. Seems to me I read on a forum somewhere, sorry don't remember where, that WU was not accepting any new webcam images. Maybe there is some truth to that as I can't get a webcam image on WU using either FTP or URL.
Presently my weather data is being uploaded to WU and AWEKAS and my webcam is being uploaded to AWEKAS.

Give it some more time. I've read that webcams need to go through some approval process to make sure the image is not of something unacceptable.

I tried for months to get WU to take my camera and no joy.  They are useless.

WOW that is a postcard! What scenery with those mountains in the distance. Beautiful.  I'm from Florida...I'm easily impressed with moutains. They get me every time.

I noticed you added wind direction. I like that. I may steal that

Title: Ambient Weather WEATHERBRIDGE, WS-2000 Osprey and VP2PLUS w/ Weatherlink Live...
Post by: scudwatcher on August 25, 2020, 12:40:04 PM
Have a question....I have the Ambient Weather WS-2000 Osprey uploading station data to AMBIENTWEATHER.NET.  I have a Davis Vantage Pro2Plus WLIP uploading to WEATHERLINK.COM.  I do have a AMBIENT WEATHER WEATHERBRIDGE.  Would it be possible to connect the DAVIS VP2PLUS W/ WLIP to the WEATHERBRIDGE and also connect the same station to a WEATHERLINK LIVE?  I also have a WEATHERFLOW Tempest uploading station data to WEATHERFLOW.  I have read where METEOBRIDGE does support this station.  Does the WEATHERBRIDGE support the Tempest station?  Just trying to utilize the ease of webcam image loading that WEATHERBRIDGE offers.  Any suggestions?  Thank You!

The WLIP connect to the Davis Console which receives data from the Davis ISS (and any other sensor that transmits)

The WLL receives data from the Davis ISS (and any other sensor that transmits)

so yes both can receive the same data at the same time.

Yes, you can use your WLIP to connect to the Meteobridge and continue to upload to Weatherlink.com What does any of this have anything to do with your WS-2000?

The WeatherBridge is a Meteobridge. It is the same exact thing. The only difference is that what Ambient calls a WeatherBridge is their version with added Ambientweather.net upload license. I just refer to a WeatherBridge by its proper name ...a Meteobridge...because that is what it is. Just because Ambient wants to call it something else does not change what it really is. Boot up a WeatherBridge and it doesn't say WeatherBridge anywhere...it says Meteobridge.

The Meteobridge does support Weatherflow Air and Sky. I don't know if that means if it also support the Tempest. But if you are using the Meteobridge for your Davis station then you can't also use it for your Weatherflow. The Meteobridge only supports one station type at a time.

Whatever station you decide to connect your Meteobridge to should not impact what you do with your camera. They are two totally different things. The webcam handling on the Meteobridge is a completely separate function. Other than of course the overlay data will be of whichever station you decided to run the Meteobridge with. But if you wanted you could do without the overlay and just have a webcam image. Then you can provide that image to whichever online reporting each station does. The Meteobridge produces at the same time the image with and without the text overlay. You get to pick the given URL for the image with or without text.

I'm looking for a bit of help with my camera which WAS working fine till a few days ago. The meteobridge Weather Cam upload status shows a green check mark and current time if I reboot. The upload status is frozen after this. Problem is it won't update...every 5 min or ever... unless I reboot. Station/Weather Cam External Picture is 100% funtional. Any help would be appreciated. I have rebooted many times , unplugged the power, and deleted the Weather Cam settings and re-added it. I'm out of ideas.
N.B. It seems to update once after reboot... so that's a reboot image and one update ... then nada.
N.B. Downgraded to Version 4.3 and all is well.

Dear Galfert,

Seems WU does not display cameras anymore and WeatherCloud requires a Plus or higher tier membership. Or do I miss something?

Sincerely, Tom

Hi Galfert,

Can you tell me how to add this to the last overlay text you posted above? Thanks in advance!
Also, the picture is downsized to 640x480 despite me using 852x480 in resize. Would like to stay at 2560x1920 but cannot figure out how to adjust the position markers...

Sincerely, Tom
