This is just a PSA. The Ambient Weather website has the wrong product picture for the WH31E temperature / Humidity sensor. This sensor is the replacement for the previous WH31 or WH31B. But you should not confuse that previous part with the WH32B, nor with the WH32E which are both different things.
The problem has been reported to Ambient but this error has been on their website for some time and they have not corrected it. If you go to Amazon.com and pull up the WH31E there the correct product picture is posted. The wrong picture used for the WH31E is that of the WH32B. The problem is that the WH31E has no barometer but the WH32B does and these sensors serve different purposes. You can only have one WH32B (for compatible consoles) but you can have 8 of the WH31E sensors.
Perhaps this will clear things up.
WH31 - Replaced by WH31E - Optional temperature / humidity sensor (up to 8 able to be used, has dip switches to set channels)
WH32 or WH32E - No longer sold by Ambient, This was an external temperature / humidity sensor only to be used as a primary outdoor sensor.
WH32B - This is a primary indoor sensor to be used by the ObserverIP and the WS-2000/WS-5000 consoles - You typically get this included when you order either console. You can only have one of these.
Let's hope Ambient fixes this error soon on their website which can lead to some confusion. I know others have contacted them before. It has been a couple months now. I've just made the follow-up email to them regarding this. But rather than keep waiting for this to be fixed I thought it would help to get this information out there.
The WH31 and WH31E were at one point both available at the same time. The difference is that the WH31E includes an RCC that is necessary for some consoles like the WS-3000 that are not connected to the internet and they use this mechanism to synchronize the time. The WS-2000 and others that are connected to the Internet and synchronize the time via NTP servers, so they do not need this RCC signal and it being there does not matter and it is ignored. The decision for ambient to drop the WH31 was probably easy as the inclusion of the RCC in the WH31E probably was of negligible cost and this probably eases customer satisfaction and chance of ordering the wrong part if they had a WS-3000.
