My yard looks out about 220 ft. It's the first HD camera I have so picture is clearer.

I am still considering getting one of these. Been hearing and seeing alot of good things about these cameras. Here is one on New Egg for $91. Might replace my DLink with this one and put the DLink looking at my back door. :-)

They look like good little cameras. Ryan what setup for POE would you use? These only take 12 volts vs standard 24 like many cameras. FYI some POE injectors and switches auto sense voltage required.
I would like to try one but only rated at -22F degrees is a small issue. I wonder what happens at -23 if camera just stops working or could it damage the unit somehow.

There is an entire forum devoted to IP cameras and they have a sub forum just for Hikvision cameras. There are a lot of folks on there that know about all of the software quirks of that particular camera. I do know that there are apparently two types floating around for sale. One has Chinese language firmware and one has English language firmware. You have to be careful which one that you get or you will be very disappointed! I have one and I have to say it is absolutely remarkable at how well the focal length and resolution is. Just amazing for the price. It is also well built with an all-metal case and good quality waterproof connectors. On my camera I can sit and watch individual raindrops fall to the ground. Just get the right camera and you will not be disappointed and wonder why we have been playing with toys. I am hesitant to name the IP camera forum as I don't know about the rules on this forum. Just Google it and its pretty easy to find.

Something to think about is that the warranty/support is only honored by Hikvision when purchased through an authorized dealer. Newegg is not an authorized dealer if you read through the ratings for the camera. Nelly's Security in Tulsa is an authorized dealer. Never dealt with them myself but have read good things about them. $50 higher but something to consider.

YMMV, Doug

I don't think there is any restriction on listing another forum, assuming of course, that the other forum doesn't have some kind of a restriction on publishing their URL. I would suspect that most forums of the type we are discussing here on the WXFORUM would welcome a link from another forum or website. Everyone looks for new traffic to support their cause and to spread the information they cover.

A night and a day video clip recorded by a HikVision DS-2CD2032-I:

http://www.stadhaugh.com/misc/CamGarage20141128-113815-1417192695.mp4

Do be careful about where you order a HikVision from, they are big in Asia for security cams and counterfeits are common. The previously mentioned Nelly's is a reliable source, Amazon can be iffy.

nellys securities is listed as unauthorized.
List of unauthorized dealers. http://www.hikvision.com/en/us/UnauthorizedDistributors.asp

They don't give a list of authorized retailers only distributors and want you to call. I think I would just avoid the company altogether since they aren't forthcoming.

If arrives in a color printed box, you should be fine; if it's plain white box, be afraid.

Mine came in the plain box, yet it turned out to be the English language version. Don't use the little cd that comes with it as its worthless. There are several good YouTube videos describing the setup steps.

I'll be curious to see what Ryan's experience is, once he receives his camera.

Mine is on order. I thought on these cameras you have to insert the CD and change the IP from the default to one of your own and insert your Gateway IP. I will figure it out.

You go their website and download a program called SADP and it looks for the camera and you give it your own IP address. Then from that point you can log into the firmware from your browser window and configure it like you want.

My web page is pretty basic at the moment. It's there to serve my needs when I am out flying or when I want to check on cows on the runway etc.

Thats double cost from the link Ryan posted. For a 100 dollars it may not be worth worrying about the warranty.
