New Weather Station PC
« on: November 24, 2019, 06:15:21 PM »
Hello:
I just finished building a new Windows 10 PC to replace my 11 year old Windows 7 64bit DELL PC. I am replacing the PC due to it's age and Microsoft dropping support for Windows 7 in January, 2020.
I have the new PC up and running the latest version of Windows 10 Home and now need to install / configure my Weather Station related software.

I am concerned / apprehensive about what issues I might face migrating / installing the weather station software on the new PC.
Are there any "gotchas" out there I need to be aware of when setting up the software? I will miss Windows 7 as I have another PC (workstation) with Windows 10, I am more comfortable with Windows 7 just seems to be more user friendly.

Here is my software config:
StartWatch v. 1.1.1.144
Virtual Serial Port Emulator v. 0.938.4.846, driver: 2.037
Virtual VP v. 1.25.74
Weatherlink (Serial Port) v. 6.0.3
Weather-Display v. 10.37R-B313

I also have complete (Hard Drive Images) via weekly backups to my NAS.

Any assistance is appreciated,

I moved from Win7 to 10 about two years ago and had no issues, kinda... The only thing is with Win10 is its "you'll take the update and like it mentality" which closes out WL. To overcome this I have WL auto start after an update, and for that matter, power failures as well.

You make a good point about Windows 10 updates. I hate the way Microsoft forces the updates on users. I will have to make changes to StartWatch to hopefully get around this issue.
Thanks for the info.

Well the updates are for our own good (I guess), so instead of fighting it, I have the updates scheduled for the wee hours of the morning and just let the auto load do it's thing with WL.

Old Tele man:

Ouch!  :-)
Yes it was easier to control updates with Windows 7,plus it was not as intrusive.
