This info is from ProData's site... http://www.weatherstations.co.uk/vp_faqt2.stm

The effective internal diameter of the Davis VP raingauge aperture is ~165mm

That's 6.5" in Imperial.  :-)

Probably a bit under 7" at the top but bear in mind it's wider at the base - assuming that's relevant.

Bushman, I asked the wife to measure mine whle I was doing a little touch-up on the mast.  Here's what she came up with (VP2+ purchased last week):

Top diameter 6 3/4"
Top outer circumference 21 1/2"
Top outer circumference just below the "lip" 22"
Note there is a slight change in dimension around the top edge.

Bottom diameter 8"
Bottom circumference 25 3/8

We won't know how accurate these figures are until you or I use them for something, so go for it.  :-)

And Ray Proudfoot:  There can't be two of you, can there?  Of Radar Contact beta team?  Bob Fiegel here.  Long since have given up Flight Sim, but those sure were enjoyable times, even the grunt stuff of beta!

Yes it's me Bob. As you say there couldn't be two people with that name! I'm still playing with FS and involved with RC v5 now. Had an interest in the weather since a teenager!

I found a great, cheap source for a bucket cover since I do not have winter heat (yet).  The measurements help.

Glad it helps -- you had a good sense of timing.

I'll not have much need for heating in my area though.  Orlando area of Florida, 15 minutes drive from Walt Disney World.  We check for parkas when it gets below 40F.  Instead, my next small project will be sticking some coat hanger pieces up there to foil the pigeons that have already discovered a wondertful new perch.  Less than 3 weeks and I'm already popular...with the birds.

Get some  of the birdy razor wire (prickle stuff) and rim the edge.  It'll give it a nice Alcatraz look.  :)
