Missed Forecast?
« on: January 11, 2020, 12:46:04 PM »
Here in SE Wisconsin they were calling for a Major Snowstorm starting yesterday. Originally they were calling for 8"-14" by Sunday AM.. Now the "Revised Forecast" is for 3"-6". How can they be this far off on the forecasts?

The weather models aren't perfect and a slight shift of a few miles in the storm path can make a huge difference for a specific location.

Who is we?  The NWS or TV weather people who like to hype the worst computer models?  In Oklahoma, we have trouble with the latter.  A TV weatherman said Stillwater would get as much as 7.1", but only an inch fell.   The NWS has more credibility.

The problem with a snow forecast is if you're even close to where the division is between rain vs snow, you may get what they say, you may not as the exact demarcation can be difficult to determine to the nth degree unlike rain only.
