Can anyone suggest a weather station for fathers day? My dad is 80 it does not need any internet connectivity just wind speed, rain gauge, temps on a wireless display.
A few years ago i bought him a acurite station that only lasted about a year and half before it quit working think i paid around $130 for it. Are the newer ones any better?

I would not be able to speak for Acurite as I do not owe one, But a few around the forum do like it quite a bit! Also Ecowitt seem to be the new kid on the block.
My vote goes for the Davis Vantage Vue. :)

Check out Ambient Weather WS-2902 (https://www.ambientweather.com/amws2902.html). I had one of these before my Davis VP2 and it worked really good for a all-in-one system. Comes with a little console and while it can optionally upload online, there's no requirement to if you don't want to.

If you are not going to upload then the the WS-1900 is an even more price appealing option than the WS-2902A. But even if your Dad is not interested in online data, you might as his place is probably of interest to you. So it will benefit you to have the data online.
I have some reservations about the Davis Vue. After a few years time you'll have to replace the entire outdoor unit when the humidity sensor fails. They tend to last anywhere between 18 months to 3 or 4 years. If you are going to go Davis then VP2 is the only way to ensure sensible replacement parts.

6yrs here and the only failure has been the Wind Speed Cartridge :)

Maybe that hot dry Teaxs weather cooks and maintains that humidity sensor going for ya. [tup] In more humid climates maybe they don't last as long. It is that or there are some better ones than others for whatever reason. There are a few bad ones around me and the owners don't even realize that the sensor is bad when they clearly peek at 88%. Some others peek and drop abruptly and recover later and the cycle continues.

Maybe not as much as Florida but we get our good share. Yesterday was 98F and we had 94% Humidity! It sucks! LOL!

Humidity spiked through the afternoon while the sun was boiling down. The point is that Houston/Spring is not dry weather.
