Well that is a really old network switch and it is only 10/100 Mbps speed. Probably okay for a weather station and a VOIP phone....but if you also plug in a computer it might be a bit slow for today's typical connections that are gigabit (10/100/1000).

Figure it would work for the phone and the IP-100
Hoping tech can take care of the rest.

They are supposed to redo my ceiling sometime so I need more ports and electrical work.

Some business class LinkSys/Cisco branded routers do support PoE but think the older LinkSys style black and blues did not. These were LinkSys designed before the sale to Cisco. They were eventually replaced by more Cisco looking boxes and many of them say right on the front PoE as a status.

But you have nothing to loose by trying it. But it sounds like you could just have your network folks load Cisco Jabber on your cell phone and give the desk phone a snooze in the file cabinet drawer and use the port for the weather console. The Voip calls would route over wifi to your phone.

Talked to the network guy at school today. Good and bad things.
Please read carefully. Suggestions accepted.

A. Bad. The cheap Cisco phone needs to go back on the wall. It does need power from the network and did not work on the switch. Had to try.

B. Good. He is going to give me a Win machine with a serial port for the Rainwise cc-3000 to hook into. I will get the computer and monitor next week.

BB. Good. Rainwise will give me a cc-3000 for $335. Do I want serial or USB? Does it matter with the Rainwise compared to the Davis.

BBB.  Good. Weather Display (Brian) said they would comp the software.

C. Good. He is going to look at getting another network line put in. I may be able to just switch the phone and computer.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This is where it gets hairy.

D. Bad. We do not have a server space for a website. So I either need to get a website host or do Apache and host it myself. Recommendations needed with secure certificates.

E. Bad. I cannot FTP out anything. Cannot poke a hole in the firewall to do it. I can only use ports 80 and 443.
--If I have to host outside-can Weather Display use ports out or does it have to be FTP? I do not know. Does WD send to WU/CWOP/AWEAKS/ETC by FTP or ports out?   I need to look into it. This is a big thing otherwise.

There is a possibility that I can do it if I put the computer in the server room. Hook it into some other modem. But I would have to find a website host.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

F. Good. I can Teamviewer on any computer they give me. I may have to make a new account. Just have to do it with School computers. Not my own.

G. Good. I plan on using the website template that many of you use. It is a good place to start. I can edit the html/php files that all of you have gracefully made over the years.  He does not do that.

I figure I can do the stuff in front of the computer, he does the work behind the computer.

Whew. That is a lot. We talked so long, I missed lunch and ate in front of my kids.

Nice to see IT guy helping you out.

Some suggestions...

A. Cisco phone needs Power over Ethernet (PoE). This can easily be solved with a PoE switch:
https://www.amazon.com/NETGEAR-Gigabit-Ethernet-Unmanaged-Desktop/dp/B01MRO4M73/
or
https://www.amazon.com/TP-Link-Compliant-Shielded-Optimization-TL-SG1005P/dp/B076HZFY3F/

But if they offered to run you a new Ethernet line drop then just go with that!

E. Uploads to the various services are done by whatever method each service's upload protocol is defined.

CWOP - port 14580
AWEKAS - port 80
PWSweather - port 80

Another option to power your Cisco phone through a simple non-POE (power over ethernet) switch may be possible using a simple POE injector. However, all devices connected to your add-on switch would be subject to the managed configuration of the port on the uplinked switch (VLAN, filtering, etc.). That may or may not cause network issues depending on the complexity and sophistication of the network.

There are several POE injector models available on Amazon.

I don't know about your area, but here there are a few educational "networks" mainly based on either region or county that allow schools in their membership to post on their web servers. So maybe your local school district allows this. If not is there a PTA/PTO that might have one or foot the bill.

Hosting it yourself, if they are not going to host it in the same location as the station and not allow you to ftp to it, or will they allow ftp inside the firewall but not outside it?

Apache is a great server and easy to get going, but the key would be the bandwidth needed to view it. Again I think if your ITS dept can host and configure it on their network and allow your weather station to ftp to that site is the best inside option, and has zero cost for you.

They have  two ways to get internet.

If I go the way where I can do all 80/443, I can host it.

But thinking with Apple/chrome killing http, flash  and wanting certificates and security, it would be best to run through a web host.  It will be still be on the system that allows full 80/443 and FTP outs.

Waiting to get a computer. He was cool with the teamviewer thing!

For my desk-I need something to split Mac-hdmi mini/lighting out to an extra monitor VGA AND my Promethean Board HTMI.   I am not a fan of the macbook we have.

At the University I worked at had Cisco voip phones. If the phone had a pass through Ethernet port they had to configure the network switch to enable a dual IP...one for the phone and one for the PC. In offices where there was no PC the switch was only configured for voip for that port. If your It dept did the same adding a switch or router will not work. That port is not set for dual IPs. Also at our University hanging a non approved device got the port shut off. Our Telecom dept was like the phone company. You had to play by their rules.

This site has most of the files you'd need to edit, depending on what you want where.
https://saratoga-weather.org/wxtemplates/construction.php

But the main file to edit is ajax-dashboard.php for the "central" area of the scripts.

Ken supports his scripts in the PHP section of this site.  https://www.wxforum.net/index.php?board=87.0
