I don’t see it (the pricing) considering the basic station is the same design, going back to VP 1 when that came out in 1999/2000.  I’d like to replace my ISS simply because its going on 12 years old, but given the step back many claim with the tipping spoon design of the rain gauge I’d be tempted to put a Rainwise on it and forgo Davis’ altogether.  Considering the humidity sensor is shot given the longevity of them, replacing that and the temperature sensor would be nice.  So far, no supercap leakage issues.

I have to say the new Davis rain bucket is much better then the old one. It doesn't follow my coco gauge exactly but it's much closer then the old one. I'm quite happy with it.

I would most certainly argue against that. Having had 3 spoon tippers, they were all absolutely miles out. Went back to the see-saw version, no issues whatsoever. mcrossley experienced the same issue as well. It could well b e a problem with just metric versions, but I'll never use a spoon tipper from Davis again.

Strange one? Have done a heap of comparisons with rain gauges since the very first WMII which were not bad BTW, VP2's and especially with the so called u beaut silver coating were typically crap out of the box, the factory calibration method was also questionable, mostly under read by up to 30%, very very rarely were they ever over. Having checked every VP2 tipping spoon I have, they couldn't be faulted, all within spec, these were all metric and came from multiple batches sourced locally and overseas. The plus with the VP2 tipping spoon is the sealed reed switch as opposed to the exposed agricultural tipping spoon reed connections especially in salt environments.

As for me, I don't see any contraindications to you not being able to become a moderator. Fortunately, moderators are always supervised by administrators and it is up to them to decide whether to grant you the position you are applying for.
