Meteostick reception mystery
« on: April 30, 2020, 07:24:13 AM »
I use a Meteostick to receive data from my Davis VP2. I log everything it receives in the process. I've got a setup with 2 6332OV transmitters. One it set to id 1, the other to id 2.

However, the Meteostick usually receives data from id 1 at expected intervals, but only intermittent from id 2.

Now I confirm with my Davis console using diagnostic mode that id 2 is transmitting at the expected intervals. I can see the number of updates it receives from id 2. I do notice that it takes longer to connect to id 2 than to id 1 for the console, but once it does all seems well.

I am aware of the fact that the reception of the Meteostick is not nearly as good as the Davis console. However, when I do receive data from id 2, signal strength is good. (-55 to -58) I've positioned both the Meteostick and the transmitter with no obstacles in between.

Additionally, I have 2 other transmitters I do not use at the moment, but when I test those, I get pretty much the same as with id 2. Only infrequent updates, while id 1 keeps transmitting. It does not matter which id is set, everything except id 1 does not work properly.

Does anyone have a clue how to explain this behavior?

Update:

I've been trying some things. I had the transmitter id filter set to receive data from all 8 id's. I now have it limited to 1 and 2, and it seems that has a positive effect on the number of id 2 updates it receives. This seems unexpected.

I also notice that even though I only accept id 1 and 2, ids from my transmitter with id 7 still get through at times. When I instruct the Meteostick to receive ids 1, 2 and 7, the frequency of id 7 updates increases too.
