new device firmware version for HP25xxC: V1.9.5
« on: March 21, 2024, 04:09:12 AM »
Hi!

There's a new device firmware version V1.9.5 available for the HP25xxC (so HP2551C & HP2560C).

Changelog HP2550&&HP2560 Firmware V1.9.5_2024-3-15
  • Add eight channel AD values for WH51 soil moisture sensor data upload via WiFi
  • Update the calculation parameter for outdoor temperature compensation, changing from the average of the last eight gusts to the average wind speed over 10 minutes
  • Modify the color of the 10-minute average wind direction indicator on the main interface with a black background, changing it from dark gray to white
  • If the rainfall display is set to piezoelectric rain gauge, display 'piezo' below the daily rainreading
  • When a temperature, humidity, and barometric pressure sensor is detected, set the T&HPsensor to 'Disable' by default. When the user enables the T&HP sensor, give its data higher priority over the built-in probe
  • Change domain names:
    www.Wunderground.com to Wunderground.com
    www.Weathercloud.net to Weathercloud.net
    www.WeatherObservationsWebsite.com to wow.metoffice.gov.uk
    www.ecowitt.net to ecowitt.net
  • Add support for the WN35 transmitter in the Czech language version
  • When receiving a signal from the WH46, add PM1.0 and PM4.0 to the cycle on the maininterface
  • Add a Wi-Fi switch setting option
  • Implement host firmware OTA updates; if auto OTA is checked, perform an automatic OTA upon first power-up and then daily thereafter
  • Add a 10-minute gust display feature on the main interface, with an option in the 'more settings' to switch between displaying the 10-minute average wind speed or the 10-minute gust
  • Change the maximum Air Quality Index (AQI) value to 500
  • Add a master switch for alarm sounds on the alarm interface
  • Set the default time to January 1, 2024
These files are also available on Ecowitts HP2550C product page.

The quick guide to updating the device firmware:
  • get the file
  • Unzip the file
  • copy user.bin file to SD card (max 32GB)
  • Insert to console to start upgrade
Update:
I have now updated my HP2551C from v1.9.3 to v1.9.5. After initial problems with logging into the WIFI (possibly due to the WIFI mesh system), everything is working as before.
The AD values soiladN (N=1..8) are now also transmitted in the Ecowitt protocol. Unfortunately there is neither runtime nor heap. Perhaps this will come with a later update.
Otherwise I don't see any changes here.

Anyone has an idea what does
"10. Implement host firmware OTA updates; if auto OTA is checked, perform an automatic OTA upon first power-up and then daily thereafter"
exactly mean - where can this OTA be checked/unchecked ? (maybe only a functionality in the HP2560 WebUI ...)
Didn't find anything in my HP2550

I think that
"9. Add a Wi-Fi switch setting option" is a wrong wording - what was introduced was an AFC switch which (as far as I know - that's how it was explained with the GW2000) applies to the RF reception improvement and not to the 2.4 GHz WiFi network

will check with Ecowitt

#1: (AD values) On my HP2560 consoles this works as stated. On my HP2550 consoles (older units) this removed the AD - blank reading. And the AD- is gone completely.
#3: White wind gust indicator. Excellent, I can see it now. =D>

#5: T/H/P setting to use wh32 indoors. Been wanting this for a very long time.  =D> \:D/ [tup]

Some of nice improvements.

The console firmware update before needs an SD card with the "user.bin" file loaded to the console, if your wifi modem firmware is started with "easyweatherPro****", then it is possible to OTA the console firmware via the auto OTA option on the about page.
I think this is a very handy upgrade with easier handling. [tup] =D>

@Henry:
thank you for the clarification  [tup]
you were just a bit faster than I  ;) - just to clarify the terms - "host firmware" means "device firmware" - and OTA was possible with EasyWeatherPro for the WiFi portion so far and now it is also possible for the device firmware.
we use here the terms device firmware and WiFi firmware to clearly distinct one from the other. Unfortunately "console firmware" is not unambiguous - and it was the first time I heard of/read the term "host firmware"

It's to avoid confusion and to use clear and unequivocal terms - as suggested by the Chinese wise man Kung Fu Tse (also known als Confucius in the West)  8-)
EDIT: added picture
 :!:WiFi firmware EasyWeatherPro only  :!:

this is due to your language version  ;)
in fact it's two languages concatenated - hence the too long string in French

Updated my HP2560 without issue.

Very happy about the ability to update the device firmware OTA. No more fiddling with SD cards!!

Just for the heck of it, I checked both automatic wifi and host boxes on one of my hp2560.

Suppose one could wait until there is a new firmware. Then check a box when there is a new firmware release and do the upgrade.
If it works as intended there would be no need for using a sd card to upgrade. Will see how well it works.. :-k

I think you misunderstand the concept - it's either
- automatic: once new firmware is available, it will be downloaded and installed - you won't be asked
- manual: then you can check regularly yourself (check option) and download/install when you want
(you can also check manually when the automatic option is set, but ....)
when and often you check is your choice - you can also wait with the automatic unchecked until @olicat posts an upgrade mesage  ;)
=>
you don't need to use the SD card anymore in either case, but, you can still use it ...

So if the box is uncheck, and you scroll click check firmware it will than update aswell? My take is the box would have to be checked, at some point for the update to work. Or am I wrong here? Waiting for a new upgrade per postings here on the boards always works for me.

Good afternoon,

I checked my console (HP 2564AE) to see if firmware 1.9.5 was installed. I have Check Wifi firmware enabled. But it says already latest firmware.

Did I misinterpreted this thread ans was the update not for my console?

Please help me out
Thanks

You do misunderstand:
1. you have one of  the prerequisites:
EsaysWeatherPro WiFi firmware 5.1.5
2. you still have to do the upgrade to device firmware 1.9.5, because then the OTA option for device firmware upgrade for future versions (> 1.9.5)  would be shown - in order to upgrade to 1.9.5 you still have to use the SD card !

The picture in my earlier post is from device firmware 1.9.5 = after having made the upgrade via SD card.

Yours, as your picture shows, is still on 1.9.3
