Wired Magazine Tests 4 Home Weather Stations

We Put 4 Home Weather Stations to the Test
Wired    - ‎56 minutes ago‎

Weather junkies are a demanding breed, their phones and computers bedazzled with services that outline precipitation levels, high and low temperatures, and exactly how windy it's about to get.

I haven't read it, so I don't even know which ones.

Interesting,

well they all seem quite similar, the only one I wouldnt want is the NetAtmo. I know it looks cool, but thats exactly it - more like a gadget for someone who doesnt really care about weather that much and just wants it as a stylish weather station and out-of-the box ready system. The major issues I have with it are that it doesnt measure wind and especially the fact that if I understand it correctly, you are completely dependent on their API, in other words, there is no way you can work with the data, although they have apps for mobile phones, web interface etc. it is still just that and probably cannot be further analyzed/processed.

"We Put 4 Home Weather Stations to the Test"

No mention of what criteria they used and the fact that the Vue and the Acurite are in the same price range. I have read Wired for years and the "middle school book report" style of articles makes it almost worthless to read.

You would think that Wired would have been astute enough to have noticed the Facebook post that a wind instrument is coming for the Netatmo.

Wireless balances between sensational journalism and just junk articles. True tech and science gets lost in the middle.

No Davis No Peet Bros......I commented on the Wireless blog that the article was half assed and posted the links to this board and the Weather Watch board.

It's a weird "review".

I got the feeling he was judging more the console displays than anything else.

I also found this quote funny:

Quote
On a recent, beautifully sunny day, the unit was inexplicably forecasting rain.

To me, that article was worthless. All they discuss are features, and not what really counts, performance.

Articles on Gizmodo, Wired and Engadget are assigned to reporters like book reports. Some of them have no knowledge and spend little time researching (probably because of a deadline). I have caught many tech faux pas....one big one was in an article on scuba equipment. The writer kept saying "oxygen" tanks and breathing "oxygen". I am a past PADI instructor. She claimed to be certified. One mistake was okay but the article was full of them. I slammed her in the blog and got a response and she "updated" the article...but not very well.

I suppose a complete novice might find it useful, but the people on here, not so much.
