WU forecast via computer vs. smartphone
« on: March 03, 2012, 11:38:17 AM »
I just noticed today that there is a huge difference in forecasts on the computer and my android phone app for the same zip code.

computer: Sat. 27/13  Sun. 36/4 Mon. 43/13 Tues. 43/16

Phone:      Sat. 14/12 Sun. 25/16 Mon. 34/23 Tues. 30/12

Anyone have any ideas?  Both give the current conditions from my weather station.

Are you sure your pulling up the same station.  Weather Underground is now using "bestforcast".  Each station get's it's own forecast. That could be the problem.

Also have you had any trouble with the Android app crashing since the latest update last week?

Which one is closer to reality at the end of the day?

Thanks for the replies.  Evidently the Droid app uses "the best forecast" and I had that function on the computer turned off.  When I turned it on, both forecasts agreed.

Now I just need to compare both with what I actually record to see which is "best".

phone  3/14- 54/27  3/15- 52/25  3/16- 52/27

Computer  3/14-  54/22  3/15-  52/22  3/16-  54/25

Actual       3/14-  53/21  3/15- 53/22  3/16-  55/22

Kinda makes me a bit sceptical about viewing the forecast on my phone now. I like Best Forecast but it can be finicky sometimes. I assume it provides the forecast from the station displaying the current conditions. If the app is used on an Apple product (I-pod touch, Iphone, or Ipad) you can select the station to view. But on an Android I must be overlooking something because I can't find a station select option. It displays data from a neighboring station which with all due respect to the owners is highly innaccurate. Wind speed is too high, temperature too high, humidity too low, Air pressure too low which means they don't set the altitude. Hopefully Wunderground is listening and does something about this. I wish just like the web site you had an option to turn on and off BestForecast. Thanks for the info though.
I live in an apartment and for the moment am not a home weather watcher.

I am a storm chaser.
