CAP alerts flaky for anyone else
« on: August 21, 2019, 09:20:41 AM »
Is anyone else seeing flakiness with accessing CAP alerts from alerts.weather.gov? I've seen cases in the last couple of days where active alerts are either not returned or marked as expired when, in fact, they are still active. And the situation comes and goes. After one fetch, the alert will be there. Next fetch, gone. Next fetch, back again.

Maybe it's just my local office (BOX). Ironic thing is that the beta JSON API seems to be working better at this time.

Example right now if you happen to read this shortly after I wrote it...

If you go to:

  https://forecast.weather.gov/MapClick.php?lat=42.441700000000026&lon=-71.23156999999998#.XV1D7FApDOQ

you should see that there is a special weather statement that covers the entirety of the BOX area. However, the following URLs sometimes have the alerts, sometimes not (and can be inconsistent between themselves):

https://alerts.weather.gov/cap/ma.php?x=1
https://alerts.weather.gov/cap/wwaatmget.php?x=MAZ014&y=1
https://alerts.weather.gov/cap/wwaatmget.php?x=MAZ005&y=1
https://alerts.weather.gov/cap/wwaatmget.php?x=MAZ026&y=1

The first of these URLs had the alert when I first checked just now. And now it is gone....

My NWS-Alerts script did that exact thing several times yesterday. We had both a Heat Advisory and a Excessive Heat Warning at the time, and at least 2 times, it had no advisory/warning at all. It showed clear.

Yep, same problems. Alert icons and details kept going in and out.
