UPDATE: This issue is now resolved. New Firmware 1.6.3 upgrades nicely and does not delete your configuration/data

Hi!

There's a new firmware out for GW1000 (and same for WH2650):
Code: [Select]
New Firmware GW1000V1.6.2:
1. Change the IP of WU.
2. Correct the signal interval of WH34.
So the same changelog as for v1.6.1 ...

Attention!
This firmware update deletes all configured weather services except Ecowitt (including custom server!)!
So you have to reconfigure manually all services afterwards.
Additionally all calibrations and rain rates are gone now.
In addition, the IDs of my soil moisture sensors (at least) have also been rearranged - the names given no longer match.
Time zone will be set to UTC

I am not sure if this behavior is desired by FOSHK/Ecowitt.
:-#

update:
In the meantime, FOSHK has improved the update description:
Code: [Select]
New Firmware GW1000V1.6.2:
1. Modify the WH40 rainfall
another update:
Ecowitt updated again the description:
Code: [Select]
New Firmware GW1000V1.6.2:
1. Modify the WH40 rainfall algorithm to prevent inaccurate rainfall measurement during rainstorm.
2. Support WH45 Co2 sensor

It seems to have wiped out my entire rain history for the year, month, and day.

I can also confirm that I lost my weather reporting services as well.

Strange that they would release a firmware update on the weekend. I think this update will end up being either pulled or superceded quickly. I'm holding off and staying put with 1.6.1.

I just sent Ecowitt the following email.

Quote
If like to inform you that the recent release of firmware 1.6.2 is causing concern among users of the GW1000. This 1.6.2 version is erasing all settings, all upload services and all calibrations, and rain data totals from the GW1000. This is rather unfortunate.

If this is a bug then I recommend stopping the distribution of 1.6.2. If this is necessary and cannot be fixed then the notification pop-up in WS View for update should inform the user to first write down all their rain data totals and their calibrations, and to also be mindful that they will need to enter upload services credentials. There needs to be a warning if this cannot be avoided.

Warning on GW1000 Firmware update to 1.6.2
« Reply #4 on: August 29, 2020, 01:00:21 PM »
Attention. The update will set all calibration to default values and the rain totals to zero.
Better keep note of them and re-enter directly after the update.

This is (+/-) the same as the posting from olicat "warning: new firmware update v1.6.2 for GW1000 seems to be broken", which I saw only now.
Can only confirm his observation.
- calibration reset to default (including relative pressure !!)
- rain totals to zero
- all weather services except ecowitt.net erased

the newly entered weather services will only once you reset the device (disconnect from electricity and reconnect)
I waited for 45 minutes until I did so, then finally the data arrived again (here Weathercloud.net)

the newly entered weather services will only work once you reset the device (disconnect from electricity and reconnect)
I waited for 45 minutes until I did so as nothing changed at the Weather website; then - after the reset/cold boot - finally the data arrived again (here Weathercloud.net)

Also need to manually change some databases as my Meteobridge handles the newly entered rain totals of today as a new rain occurrence ...
Already changed in the MB Pro DB
Maybe should have just left the value for raintotals today on zero   #-o

In addition, the IDs of the soil moisture sensors have also been rearranged - the names given no longer match.
Now I have to check each and every one of them whether the name assigned in WS View (and PWT and ecowitt.net and PWSDashboard and ...) still matches the ID/Ecowitt name.
I'll probably just plug the sensors into their actual location now.
I've updated the first post with this issue.

Grrr, the update gave me a lot of useless work ...
I hope this doesn't become the rule now!

Yes. But wouldn't the WIFI also be lost with a factory reset? I didn't have to do any initial setup - the SSID and WIFI-key were still known.
I haven't (intentionally) done a factory reset, so I don't know.

Kind of related to this (maybe). I did a reset last week because I was having wifi issues. After which, I thought I lost everything on the GW1000. It did not show up in WS View. Then I added the GW1000 device back into WS View and all data was gone: calibrations, units, rainfall history, and services. Without making any changes, I checked WU, weather cloud, and ecowitt.net, and all were still reporting...huh? Then I went back to WS View and all was normal. I'm just saying this because I don't know where the data went or came from, but it did magically reappear after about 15 minutes so if you do think you lost everything, you might want to wait a few minutes before messing with it because it might come back.

FYI- I am reluctant to update the firmware now (thanks for the warning), so I am holding off for now.

Same/similar observation here - for all sensors (which you of course only notice if you have more than one of the same type).
My 5 Soil Moisture sensors were regrouped (no obvious order, neither ascendending nor decending, probably in the same sequence in which they were picked up again by the GW1000).
I regrouped them physically into the old order/sequence.
Same happened to my two PM2.5 sensors - they now appear in reverse order - and I had to exchange them (physically, as I didn't want to go through the hazzle in the WS View app).

After having done all this (reprogrammed weather services, entered calibration (pressure) and rain totals and re-arranged the sensors SM and PM2.5) all works normal again.

Looks like 1.6.2 works ok - only the update process is sort of very radical.

Also, after this update, I noticed my time zone was way off yesterday evening.  During a rain shower at 6pm here in Texas, I noticed my rain for the day on the Ecowitt.net graph dropping down to almost zero and then increasing again after 6pm.  Turns out, after the update, my time zone was set for Dublin, Ireland!  6 hours ahead!  Luckily I got that back on track before midnight.  BUT. This evening I noticed my 2 soil moisture sensors were flip flopped.  So in trying to figure that out, I renamed them correctly back in the WS View app.  But they weren't changing on Ecowitt.net.  I didn't know how to change the name there.  So I think I just royally screwed up.  I think I made a fatal error.  I went to Ecowitt.net and hit the X on my device (weather station) and then added it back, and I think in the process I have now wiped out my WHOLE data history since May when I first got this GW1000 system!  I thought the server would have recognized the same MAC address and restored the data.  Oh well.  Not happy right now, all because of this screwy update.  I guess all I really care about are the rain totals, which I was able to piece back together last night, which I do still have before this screw up.

Did you get all your lost data back for those updating from v1.6.2?
With 1.6.3 all remained the same for me (after the update to 1.6.2 I had re-entered pressure calibration, rain totals etc. and reset the SoilMoisture and PM2.5 sensors physically, so the new channel/sensor ID combination would represent the old location again).

So no changes to the manually updated settings - however the lightning data from yesterday received after the upgrade to 1.6.2 got lost in the WS View app (of course not in my Meteobridge though).  So that's survivable.

So I'm not a good example for whether the 1.6.1 data remain/come back for 1.6.2 upgraders who didn't change anything after their upgrade. Lightning info disappearing is a bit naughty, but with the next lightning occurrence they will be newly set anyway.

Anyone with leak sensors and 1.6.3 ? My leak sensors will not connect with the GW1000 anymore. Still working fine on the HP2551C. Only thing that has changed recently is that I updated from 1.6.1 to 1.6.3. I tried to re-register ch1 a few hours ago and it still has not registered.
