Update for meteotriviglio .GIF icons for USA NWS forecast.

(1/1)

saratogaWX:
I know that some USA sites using advforecast2.php (NWS forecast) are fond of the animated .GIF icons produced by Meteotriviglio in 2011.  Over the intervening years, the NWS has added new icon names to replace old ones so your forecast may display the dreaded N/A icon due to missing the current icon.

If you use the icon set, there is now an update to make sure an icon is displayed.
Since I had no means to produce new animated GIF icons (with some requiring PoP stamps), I took the 'easy' road of copying existing icons that resemble the new NWS icons into the missing NWS icon names.
The major changes were in mixed precipitation icons, hurricane/tropical storm, and some singleton icons that had new names.

Download the updates from https://saratoga-weather.org/wxtemplates/meteotriviglio-forecast-icons-update.zip

There are 189 new (refurbished) icons in the set.. shown in the attachment below.

I also have a .PDFs of the new icons display (and the NWS jpg counterparts):

First check: https://saratoga-weather.org/wxtemplates/JPGvsGIF-initial.pdf (shows the missing .gif icons)
Final result: https://saratoga-weather.org/wxtemplates/JPGvsGIF-final.pdf  (shows the final result..
shaded bars are the currently used NWS icon names from https://www.weather.gov/forecast-icons/)

The updated, complete set of icons is available at https://saratoga-weather.org/wxtemplates/meteotreviglio-forecast-icons.zip

As a reminder, when using the Meteotriviglio .GIF icons, you won't be able to see the split 6hr:6hr forecasts for a day/night when the NWS issues those.  You would need to select the .jpg or larger .png icons to see the dual-image forecast icons.

Enjoy,
Ken

Otis:
I don't use these but wanted to say, nice work Ken, as always.
