Heathkit ID-1290 anemometer & wind vane replacements

Sure would like to put my late fathers Heathkit ID-1290 back into operation.  Surely many others would theirs too.



I'm missing the original Heathkit anemometer and wind vane.  I think these parts would work with a little messing around and re-engineering:



They are both reed switch based.  From what I've researched these things come from a Chinese company by the name of Shenzhen Fine Offset Electronics Co. Ltd (or Just Fine Offset).

Thing is I don't want to spend the $70 or so for the whole assembly in order to experiment.  I'd rather just buy the actual anemometer and wind vane, and maybe the bar that connects the two, on the cheap.  Argent out of California has the anemometer for $15 (I like that price) here: https://www.argentdata.com/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=175 but they presently don't have separate wind vanes.

Anybody out here have any ideas for other sources where these things might be available from?

My old original One-Wire Weather station from Dallas Semiconductor used reed switches for direction and speed. A Mexican company called AAG made a clone, but I don't know if they are still in business.

I gave my old OWW station away and I no longer have it.

I made a quick search of eBay and didn't see anything available.

You might be able to fabricate something with a small magnet attached to the vane and an array of reed switches. Most modern wind vanes use a resistive element like a potentiometer (without a stop).

Good luck getting this to work.
