January 7, 3AM and it's 56 degrees?

We've had nights in May and June lower than that.

Tornado in Ohio today. NSFW caution on video (language).

We've had several hail reports (actual hail, not graupel or sleet) and are supposed to get thunder later here in New England.

Have to share our nice 6.1" snowfall amount with you all. Most at one time in several years. NWS had forecast 2-5" N to S for our area. So they were not far off. Light winds.

.59" core water equivalent. What worries me a bit is my cylinder only captured .30" water equivalent. Without wind, any explanation for this big difference? Would be interested in learned opinions. I measure on a snowboard.

We have the coldest air we've seen since Thanksgiving here in Southern New England, keeping the latest storm to our south. I'm not complaining, but this winter is ominously looking like the setup we had in 2015 (where it started snowing at the end of January and didn't stop until March).

Columbia, MO got 14 inches of snow, which may be a record amount.

It was almost all cold rain here with 1.03" with some brief snow flurries for the final part of the storm.

We've already had our high for the day and the temperature 24 hours from now will be less than half what it is now.

This artic outbreak is less severe than originally forecast 5 days ago here in northern KS. Progressive weather systems with little precipitation and temperatures up and down. Current temperature 12.

It was plenty cold — 27 below — here this morning, but it looks like we will warm up a bit in the next few days. Here too, little snow of late and see-saw temps.  Hackensack has its annual winter fest going on this weekend, and this afternoon some brave souls are going to participate in the “Polar Plunge” by jumping off the ice into Birch Lake.  Not me.

-27 below makes my -5 below look like weenie roast weather.  Like Droberts said the coldest air didn't dig as far south or west as models were suggesting a few days ago.

And they are also doing HS outdoor hockey in Minnesota this morning.
Bemidji-I believe

At least the Chiefs game will be a little warmer than expected

The moon had a bright planet or star next to it this morning. Anyway one of my cameras caught it. Then last image was what 3 days of freezing fog will do. Hoarfrost is pretty cool looking.

Pretty cool, indeed. In full sun under a blue sky it’s one of nature’s special treats.
