Adding a WH32 to my HP2553
« on: August 04, 2020, 12:03:39 AM »
I have a Ecowitt HP2553 which uses the WS80 plus other parts.

I recall reading somewhere here that if I add an external WH32 it will override the WS80 temp sensor, therefore giving more accurate temp readings.

So I ordered a WH32 from Amazon along with a RS-00001 shield which have now arrived. The WH32 that arrived from Amazon has WH32C stamped on it (not sure what the C indicates?)

The HP2553 also came with a sensor for indoors which has just WH32 stamped on it - I though all WH32 were for outdoor use only?

Anyhow so when I power up the WH32C and place it outside will it just automatically replace the temp sensor in the WS80 or do I need to do something?

Also where is best location (height etc) for the new WH32C - can it be on the same pole as my WS80?

Cheers

The sensor frequency has to match the console... 433, 868, or 915 MHz.

The RS-00001 is a very underperforming radiation shield. It is not much use other than being a weather resistant cover for the WH32. I would place it in the shade under a tree. Ideally you'd want a good radiation shield and then place it in full sun. Some good radiation shields are Ambient SRS100LX or Davis 7714 but the 7714 requires some adjustment to either place sideways diagonally or you'd have to cut the WH32. The best radiation shield is also very expensive and that would be the Barani Meteoshield Pro.
