the only difference in the changelog for 2.3.0 is

- Fixed bug where some devices could not upload ecowitt.

In the web interface for my GW1100, on the "Device Setting" page, the "Version" info now lists:
Current version:V2.3.1
  • Fixed bug where some devices could not upload ecowitt.
  • Fix the memory leaks and some known crashes.
  • T&HP sensor can replace indoor temperature, humidity, pressure data.

I'm not sure that last item was there when I did the update.

Also, the "can replace"  implies user action; we would opt to switch. It's a bit more precises to say it "will" or "shall" replace the inbuilt THP sensors if that happens without user intervention. I welcome the ability to use more sensors, but my GW1100 and Wh32 are in different places and I should relabel my displays to reflect this.

We use our indoor sensors to regulate heating and humidity. Is there a way to see BOTH sensors?

Hi!

Everything here is as it should be:

It is not unusual for the changelog to be subsequently improved or concretised. There was also justified criticism of the first changelog. After all, WH32B compatibility was not mentioned at all in the first version. I would have liked to have seen a clearer reference to the automatic activation of WH32B. But at least with this changelog you know in which direction to look if you suddenly experience strange air pressure.

if you mean by both the GW1100 inbuilt T/RH (indoor) sensor and the WH32B/WH32 indoor/WN32P T&HP sensor (there are these different names for the same sensor floating around), then the answer is NO. It's either or.
If you want to see other temperatures different  from the official outdoor (T&H) and indoor (T&HP) sensor, you need to deploy WH31 extra temperature/humidity sensors which you can place anywhere. Up to 8 per console/gateway.

It's too bad you can't use both sensors. We monitor upstairs and the main floor and the basement to help control seasonal temperature and humidity variation. I've got a couple of WH31 sensors deployed already.

Is there an advantage to using the WH32B over the inbuilt GW1100 sensors -- better accuracy or something? Certainly it's convenient to place the GW1100 in the optimal location for radio and WiFi reception. Is there another reason that's been a popular item on the list?

it's the freedom of choice of location which makes the difference.
And it maskes sense that there is only one dedicated outdoor and indoor T/RH sensor.
For other purposes the extra temperature sensors (hence the name) WH31 can be used, or the user temperature sensors (WN34) if only temperature without humidity is needed. So there are still options if you have more than eight WH31.
Or you get yourself another GW1200  ;) - you can put it all together into one dashboard e.g. with HomeAssistant.

I have attached my Unix shell script that handles most of this to get the update information.
It only relies on date, sed, tr, grep, curl, and md5, so it should be fairly portable.  It may require adapting if your system has e.g. md5sum instead of md5, but I think that's it. (Note that it does not do the actual firmware download, but that's simple given all this.)

I did a PHP version of your code, so if anyone wants to use that, here it is:

This forum is destroying the code here, so added it as an attachment...
