NWS and the National Centers for Environmental Prediction (NCEP) willimplement a new version of alerts.weather.gov on or about February 14,2024, at which time, the dissemination by NWS of products formatted withthe Common Alerting Protocol version 1.1 (CAP v1.1) will be terminated asadvertised in Service Change Notice (SCN) 23-57(https://www.weather.gov/media/notification/pdf_2023_24/scn23-57_termination_cap_v1.1.pdf). As a result, the user interface atalerts.weather.gov will be updated and will begin using the CAP 1.2formatted data provided by the NWS Application Programming Interface(API) at api.weather.gov.The Atomic Syndication Format (ATOM) formatted data currently served atalerts.weather.gov will be replaced by the ATOM formatted data availableat the below links:https://api.weather.gov/alerts.atomhttps://api.weather.gov/alerts/active.atom
In an effort to limit user impact of this upgrade, the updated version isavailable for public use at https://preview-alerts.weather.gov. As this site isa preview site, it is unmonitored and only supported during regularbusiness hours.
