Hitting the water

I ran across this picture today and thought it was impressive.  Just as the lightening hit the water.

Looks almost like triggered lightning by its straight form but that's cropped/zoomed in.  Triggered lightning is quite a bit weaker.

At sea I've seen many bolts hit the water, many far too close for comfort.  Amazing color too due to the high number of sodium ions in sea water.  And on the open ocean there's nothing for it to bounce off so the acoustics are great.

But like a moth and flame, attractive things can quickly end badly. ;-)
