Are 35-50 MPH gusts something to worry about?
« on: September 29, 2024, 11:56:22 PM »
I have a phobia of bad weather and high wind. Today in my area we are under a wind advisory where it says winds could gust as high as 50MPH is this something that I should be concerned about? Of course i will be concerned but just wanted to know how concerned. I am located in southern Ohio.

50 mph / 80km/h or 44 knots is getting up there and if that was a sustained wind speed then that's fairly brisk but gusting to 50 mph might have an underlying forecast wind speed of maybe 30-35 mph (gusting to 50 mph) which isn't of that much concern, environmental factors can also affect localized areas.

I just looked at the graphical forecast for the entire region, and the highest gust I could find is not even double digits. Troll.

It could prompt a wind advisory, but not too much to worry about

If you look into the wind and your face is getting wet, it might indicate rain.    ](*,)

That sounds as bad or worse than it gets in Oklahoma.  It's constant sustained winds, though, of 35 to 50+ mph that are really bad.
