Any Experience Replacing WS-1401 to WS-2902 ARRAY
« on: November 29, 2021, 12:33:02 PM »
My 3 y/o WS-1401 Array is misbehaving and from the recommendation by Ambient I am upgrading to the WS-2902-ARRAY (without the Display Console). Unfortunately there is really no information on the steps necessary to successfully make the transition.

If anyone has experience in this exercise I'd love to hear from you. Apparently the ObserverIP firmware needs to be upgraded so it can talk to the 2902, which of course will render the 1401 useless. I'm looking for an outline of the steps in their correct order. About all I have so far is selecting the WS-1550 as the station model when setting it up.

Thanks in advance!

"which of course will render the 1401 useless", Ok but it is misbehaving, and you want to replace it. The "boat"  style array you have is , sorry, yes, long in the tooth. I had 3 (ws-1000,1001,1002) same external array.

I now have the try wing array , same as that in the ws-2902/ws-2000 packages (I do find it better)

I see you are opting to not have a new display console , is the display console important to you?

There are quite a few that view the ObserverIP as antiquated, I never had one. I just bought a WS-2000 (2 years ago).

Can you, maybe outline what you want the new system to do? Read what, post to where (weather sites), etc. There are a bunch more options now.

I too have had several "boats" over the past years, and have had reasonably good success (albeit batteries are a bugger). I actually have my own weather website which uses the data from the ObserverIP. I've written a script that grabs the html text from the livedata.htm page. I then parse it and re-write the values into my own page. This is a wheel I wish not to have to re-invent for the time being.

Essentially, all I need to do is get the new 2902 up and running with the least amount of downtime.

Completely understand. I wish Galfert would show up  , he would have more information on this. I do not know the Observer IP, hopefully someone else will chime in.

Clearly it's been a very long time since I originally set up my first WS-1400. For the IP version of the Ambient stations, the holy grail is the IPObserver MAC address. DOAH. So it really is just as simple as upgrading the firmware on the IPObserver, changing the station type to WS-1550, and of course tweaking the rain gauge levels on the Array. Keeping my fingers crossed that I'm not under thinking it.
