Did anyone other than me have issues this morning with 1and1 hosting? 

Very strange, almost like the DB was not accepting PHP calls, but the DB would work with PHP admin.
Promptly at 7am UTC (3am my time) it started working again.

1and1 says no maintenance was happening, but thinks my 6 year old DB (5.5) needed to be upgraded to (5.7).  I humored them and created a new 5.7 DB and migrated the data.  I think something was happening with the PHP, but they are not telling. =)
