Weather Drone/UAV?
« on: November 23, 2015, 10:30:23 AM »
I was wondering if anyone other than NOAA has used drones for weather observations. I am not thinking of the big "hurricane hunter" ones that they are testing. More like a "recoverable weather balloon" kind of concept.

Since the hobby drones can only reach a few hundred feet anyways, maybe an off-the-shelf RF temperature sensor could be mounted on the UAV and send data back to a ground thermometer display. Even better would be barometric pressure.

Trying to measure winds aloft might be tricky with the rotor wash.

Time to raise the weather stations to a "new level"...
