Compatibility of Davis USB data logger
« on: June 29, 2020, 11:39:39 AM »
Hi,

I've recently upgraded my Pro2 set up from a USB data logger to a WIfi logger, best move I've ever made. I'm now considering selling my USB logger however, I have a couple of questions before I do.

Can someone tell me which year/version of Davis weather stations this logger is compatible with, I have no idea, but want to make sure I'm clear when I come to sell it. I've attached a picture of the information on the logger, hopefully this make it easier to identify ?

The Wifi logger is working faultlessly, it does everything I need on a day to day basis in terms of the setup I want. Does the USB logger do anything that the WiFi logger doesn't which one day I may come to regret if I sell it.........for example firmware updates ?

What would you suggest selling it for in the UK, it works 100% as it should.

Thanks

I believe the "newer" models have a green dot on them.  Meaning you could only go up to 1.9 on firmware of your console.  So this one wouldn't work on any of the new consoles pre-shipped with newer firmware.

Hi, thanks for the reply. Something doesn't add up as I can't find a green dot however, the firmware on my old Vue was 3.00 and the USB logger worked fine on that ?

Thanks johnd.

Any thoughts on the other two questions.......?

The Wifi logger is working faultlessly, it does everything I need on a day to day basis in terms of the setup I want. Does the USB logger do anything that the WiFi logger doesn't which one day I may come to regret if I sell it.........for example firmware updates ?

Any guidance appreciated.

As far as I'm aware, the WFL does everything that the USB logger does, including console firmware updates. (The one obvious thing WFL cannot do is to provide a cabled connection to a computer - it is WiFi only. But as long as you have a working WiFi then that point is pretty irrelevant.)

I suppose one reason for keeping it is if you ever got a second wireless console and maybe wanted to feed data to a completely different weather program then the USB logger would allow that. But that's perhaps not a very likely possibility?

As to price I really don't know - don't you just put it on eBay maybe with a reserve price (say £30-40?) and see what someone might bid for it over a few weeks?

I would just keep it. My wifi logger does everything I need but one day it might break down. It would be nice to have a back up just in case.
