Sensor failure as it reads high outdoor temperature

(1/1)

martytoo:
I have three devices that use the same outdoor sensor.  I bought one of these as a spare and was happy I did as a couple of years ago I needed the last outdoor sensor as the previous one died.  This month the final outdoor device stopped working properly.  In both cases the outdoor sensor starts to read a higher temperature than reality.  Interestingly, when brought indoors the sensor seems to read accurately but once outdoors they read too high.

They were on the side of my back steps until recently when I hung one on a light fixture after repair to the steps.  The indoor temp was about 70°F.  The outdoor temp reads about 10° or so high and the true outdoor temperature has been 30° to 50°.

I took one of the very rudimentary sensors apart. There were two capacitors that I measured as good.  Is there anything that might bring these back into proper working order?  The model is WS-9014U  433MNz

Here is a picture of the units:

Replacing the thermistor is likely a decent way to proceed.  However after looking at the linked video I cleaned the thermistors on both of my sensors and that seems to have fixed them.  I will post here again if they act up.  Below you can see them.  The first is the board removed from the plastic sensor housing and the second show the outside of the sensor with the little grating that protects the thermistor removed.  I cleaned and straightened the first with my fingernail - you can see it just below the alligator clips.  I used Deoxit to clean the one in the second image .

But I think the following is the best answer -  and I will follow these instructions if my cleaning repair doesn't hold up:
