Should everyone use official SI (Metric) or Imperial unit symbols?

Yes, everyone should use official SI (Metric) or Imperial symbols
No, it does not matter as other abbreviations are common
I don't care, I don't have an opinion. I just want to see the voting results.

Normally I'd say one standard, but since a lot of sites allow you to display one or both....Just configure to show both, then both sides are happy.

I should note also that ones that don't oftentimes have either a configuration setting for the end user to set what they want to see, or a single button to show alternative units (MetOffice WeatherObservationsWebsite does this, I know).  So its not like you gotta whip out the ol slide rule because I'm running degrees F to get degrees C, you can usually specify it in your settings on the website (if you have a userid) and then if you click on my site it'll show you them in your "preferred" units anyway.

You are missing the point. This isn't a debate over Imperial vs. Metric. This is a debate of which symbol abbreviations are acceptable.

It is a debate between for example using; FT, ft, or Ft.
Or between; km/h, kph, kmph, or kmh.

...and the big question being, if there is a standard to follow from the governing agencies or if it doesn't matter?

I'm sure it doesn't help that some have gone off topic and are jokingly talking about Metric vs Imperial.

I've changed the poll to allow you to change your mind.

You've forgotten a 'new standard' ...

Making things machine readable !
[new line]
eg. a crossed through zero would be interpreted as eight.[stop]
[end]

BTW (Is that allowed ?) I'm fed up of auto spell checkers telling me how the US do things ....

This topic was triggered by the still beta new website for PWSweather. They originally used kph instead of km/h. I'm happy to report that PWSweather has responded to various people's feedback and they have removed all references to kph in favor of km/h.
