GW1000 connectivity issues
« on: June 09, 2021, 06:07:47 PM »
Hi,

I am hoping someone can help me resolve this problem. I am having an ongoing connectivity issue between Weather Display and my GW1000 hub.

I am running WD on a stand-alone laptop running 24/7 publishing my polished data online.

Things will be running along fine - and then the connection stops. The error message I receive in the CRON program is attached below. The second image is the message I receive when I reboot WD.

The interesting thing seems to be that the GW1000 seems to be 'viewable" by the CRON program and in the WSview app on my ipad - but no data is being received by either WD via CRON or on Ecowitt.net.

The only thing that seems to resolve this is to reboot my modem. Once I reboot my modem everything connects back up again and runs fine. Sometimes for a few hours - sometimes for less than 5 minutes. Then the whole thing disconnects again.

Very, very frustrating.

The GW1000 is set to static IP and the MAC addresses etc are all correct.

Thanks.
Mike

Is your GW1000 powered by plugging it directly in a phone/tablet type of AC adapter?

Your symptoms sound like mine when I plugged it in directly to the adapter. The GW1000 ran flawlessly out of-the box then developed random intermittent connectivity problems. It would lose its connection with the router and disappear from the network crashing the WeeWx driver. A hard reboot ( pull out the a/c adapter) would fix it temporarily but it would repeatedly go down a few times per day. Yep..frustrating.

I vaguely remembered some posts on this issue about adding a short usb extention cable and that was the instant cure for me..no issues since. If you haven't done so already..worth a shot.

some such similar symptoms show up every now and then - WD only - weewx, CumulusMX, Meteobridge are working properly with the same GW1000.
There is felt improvement with the latest GW1000 firmware (1.6.8 ) but this may be unrelated, because my other application software works/worked properly.
What helps in my case is just shutting down WD and starting it anew.
Do you use the latest crongw1000.exe ? (www.weather-display.com/downloadfiles/crongw1000.zip)

I wonder if the physical orientation of the GW1000 could be important, when I selected my USB PSU for mine I arranged for the GW1000 to be mounted vertically as it would be if hung on a hook, some of the PSUs I have would not have allowed that. Just a thought....

Thanks all for your suggestions - we (i.e. my wife) did some wizardy with the router settings and it seems to be holding its own (so far). I'm not 100% convinced that it is fixed but some progress at least. If it disconnects again - I will go through all of your possible fixes one at a time and watch for improvement.

All I have is WD - and I am pretty invested in it - so switching to another platform is not really in the cards for me right now. Will have to make it work somehow.

In terms of the latest CRON exe zip - I got it a couple weeks ago and it immediately solved the issue of no lightning sensor appearing in WD.

I also find it very interesting re: the issue with the ac adaptor and orientation of the GW1000 itself as I recently changed the adaptor from the one I had used initially.

Thanks again. Will keep posted if no improvement or if I discover the culprit in case anyone else ends up having the same problems as me.

Mike
