Weather Station uploader for Kubuntu ?
« on: May 28, 2015, 10:26:07 AM »
Anyone know of any weather station uploading programs for Kubuntu?
Maybe something I can get from one of the repositories.

I have a dying WMR968 now and will be moving to a Davis VP2

Thanks

I think it will and I have downloaded it, but it's not a simple install if you don't know what you are doing.
It comes in a Tar ball and I've never been real clear about getting them to run.

Kubuntu would be a Debian derivative, so the deb package might work: http://www.weewx.com/docs/debian.htm

"Tar" is just a format that puts a group of files and directories into a single file archive.  Think of it as a Windows .zip file without the compression.  Tar files can be compressed with an extra step.  These will often be noted in the file name as tar.gz or .tgz.

If you want to install weewx from the tar file, you'd follow these steps: http://www.weewx.com/docs/setup.htm

Splitting hairs I know... but Kubuntu is an Ubuntu derivative.  Pretty much anything that works on Ubuntu  will work.  Nice user interface although Ubuntu's is just fine for me.

And Ubuntu is a Debian derivative, so...  ;)

Actually, the WeeWX package only has a few extra Python 2.7 dependencies that should be a part of the standard Kubuntu repository.  I am using WeeWX 3.1 on Raspbian Wheezy for the Raspberry Pi and while it is older, there were no issues with the available packages.  I think that Tom has done a good job with a portable package which isn't always easy.

Follow the Debian instructions.  Also, there is a Google group/mailing list for WeeWx users which is another good resource.
