Having read about instances of people missing the card slot and pushing their micro SD card into the console, I looked around for a solution. For information , although I haven't managed to miss the slot, its been close on my ws-2000 console (which would apply to others). Also I hate removing the console from its wall mount for what are rather frequent firmware updates.

The immediate thought was to get a micro SD extension, basically a cable that plugs into your micro SD card slot and at the other end has an SD card slot. So I bought one, and it worked, almost. The biggest issue with these if you buy on Amazon or other sites, is they may not clip, or lock into place, and the adapter can slide out, making it useless pretty much.

I have another design on order that might actually clip. If that doesn't work, I have seen another that might do better.
Just something to think about.

The solution you are planning on requires knowledge of the initial problem to buy said adapter. If one knows about the problem then one will be careful so that it doesn't happen. I think this is only an issue for those that are not informed. But I understand your point for ease of firmware flashing.

You are right Galfert.

I'm referencing this post https://www.wxforum.net/index.php?topic=39672.msg407576#msg407576

There is , a small manufacturing defect in these specific consoles that allows one to slide the micro SD, beside the slot. The plastic mold has too much of a gap, and that should not be possible. Sure, we learn about the issue , and we are very careful , but , just looking at a way to potentially avoid it, and also have other benefits. Although , hanging an extension off the port may be more of deterrent to aesthetics than some may want.

The slot for the micro SD on these consoles , appears to latch on the end of the card, not the obvious notch on the card. For something to work, it has to have the requisite gap at the end .

From my purchase and investigation, most do not.

I guess I just do not see this as an "issue." One should be paying attention when they are doing such things, and you can clearly see the metal slot that is designed to hold the SD card, so only laziness could result in putting the SD card into the wrong slot.

To me, a weather station is a tool, and I was taught from a very early age on our ranch that you take care of your tools and use them properly.

Naw kd7eir, this is for folk exploring other options. I'm glad everything is working for you. This was just a post for those that want to take it a bit further

I missed the slot on a couple of Raspberry Pis - depends on the case.  Luckily it is easy to open the case and retrieve it.
