NWS Alerts Banner Using HTML Code - Is this Possible?
« on: December 30, 2024, 09:48:11 AM »
Hi all,
This may be an odd question, but is there any known way to put a National Weather Service Alerts banner at the top of my webpage that automatically updates as new alerts come out, and when you click on it, it'll bring you to the current alerts description webpage at the National Weather Services' website, or to another page on my website I currently have titled as 'Current NWS Alerts'?

This would look similar to the NWS alerts banner at the top of many of your pages that you use with PHP coding on the Saratoga Templates. My website is hosted through WIX so sadly I'm limited to using HTML embed coding and am unable to use PHP as Wix does not offer that option.

Any help with this would be greatly appreciated!

My website is currently under construction and I will soon get a paid subscription and get a custom domain once I have everything set up the way I want it, but here is my current site for reference...

Thanks everyone!

Matt, you might try www.willyweather.com.  Look for the "Weather Warnings" link at bottom of their page.  You can set up a banner warning that links to the NWS warning using the code that is generated.  I use one on my alternate site, https://www.sartelleastwx.com.  Currently there is a fog warning banner (until noon CST) showing on the site.

Thanks Bill, I'll take a look into that! And good to hear from you! Hope all is well!

Bill, any chance you could share the exact html code structure you are using? I went the the website an got the generated code
<script src="https://cdnres.willyweather.com/widget/warning/loadView.html?id=156020" type="application/javascript"></script>
but when i go to incorporate that onto my website nothing shows up.

Actually I may be all set. Nothing was showing up buy that is probably because we don't currently have any weather alerts out at the moment. I did the test (Command+option+t) on my mac and the banner showed up, so I know it's there. We shall see if it works when we get our first weather warning issued!

Yes, if you did the test and a sample alert banner shows, it should work.  The set up has worked reliably for me for several years now.  As you say, you just have to wait until an actual alert is issued for your area.  Good luck with everything as you rebuild your site.
