GRLevel3 V3
« on: October 26, 2024, 10:44:15 AM »
I noticed GRLevel3 V3 is available to download, but after installing it, I noticed there is no option for Publishing as there is in the earlier versions. Has anyone looked into this and maybe I'm just missing something? I don't want to purchase it if I can't publish images to my website.

Yes, that well-liked, often used function has been removed from V3.

I asked the same question over at the GRLevelX forums and sure enough the owner of GRLevelx verified the "Publishing" function has been removed.

Glad I asked the question before shelling out the $40.00 for the upgrade. I'll be sticking with GRLevelX v2.

Kind of sad.....

On V2, there was no option to publish with SFTP which my host required. So you can't publish from the program anymore at all?
I had to stop uploading images when I switched to IONOS.

Wonder why? Not a issue for me just curious.

The developer suggested that the updated code needed for further development did not support it.   ](*,)

Being a new user, i am awaiting approval before i can ask my question in their forums.  But, publishing is eesential to my desired use, if i buy a new key will it activate version 2?

Thanks,

Jim

Version 3_2 still publishes, but not without a few quirks that were never fixed and never will be.

Glad to find this out before I updated to V3 !  I have been planning to do just that before severe storm season here. Out of curiosity does it have any noteworthy features ? I could setup a seperate FTP but given the new version may not have the ability to even publish to a folder on my server where I could pick it up using a separate FTP client

So, assuming publication never comes back, do we have any alternatives? Or for those of us late to the party just SOL on Level 3 radar?

Thanks, Jim

You can still download GRLevel 3, Version 2 here: https://grlevelx.com/grlevel3_2/, but the webpage states "GRLevel3 Version 2 has been replaced by GRLevel3 v3 and is no longer available for purchase. Try the GRLevel3 v3 21-day free trial to see if it meets your needs: GRLevel3 Version 3". Maybe you could download version 2 and version 3, purchase 3 and use the license key for version 2. You can contact Mike Gibson at admin@grlevelx.com to ask if this is possible.

Thank you.  That was my thought, to see if the license key for v3 would work on V2.  I have applied for admission to the forum and intended to ask that question, but my application has not yet been approved so i had no way to ask.  Thanks for the email address. I will ask.

I used GRL3 to publish to a folder on my hard drive and then picked it up with Fling and uploaded to my website. As near as I can remember it worked ok. I just had it set to upload on change which was a new image. Seems it was a little iffy uploading more than one product scan

I got a reply from Mr. Gibson and this is what he said:

Quote
Jim,

Here are the answers to your questions:

1.   The Publishing feature has been permanently removed. It interfered with the internal working of the program and limited future enhancements.

2.   A GR3 v3 license doesn’t work in v2, so that isn’t a solution to the problem.

You might be able to find another program that takes screenshots at given intervals and uploads to a website. I don’t know of any offhand but it would be worth a Google search to see what’s out there.

Mike Gibson
Gibson Ridge Software, LLC

I have been looking around and can't find anything else.  So, if you don't already have a license for version 2, the end is at hand.

That's a real bummer. Maybe start a new post asking the forum members if they know of a screen capture utility solution.

As WThomas mentioned, you should be able to "Publish" images to a local directory on your computer in the same manner as you currently "Publish" to an FTP site. Then, use a product like Fling to automatically FTP from the directories you specify in Fling to the GRLevel3 image directory on your host. You can setup Fling to recognize changes to files on your local directory and the FTP upload will automatically begin.

How do you "publish" (save) GRLevel3 image files to your local computer? I installed V3 and thought I'd give it a try. I use a NAS as my webserver, so if I could "publish" files in a local directory on my PC running GR, I could probably save those files directly to a directory on my NAS.

You can configure winSCP to do the job, but doing so isn't for the faint of heart. I have used it for years to transfer files to my internal server.

And no, don't ask me for help because I no longer remember how to configure it...

I don't see transferring the files as a big problem, it's how to generate the jpg sequenced files automatically that can be transferred.

Yes, exactly, Jim. The issue is creating the image files, sequencing them, and saving them. If that can be done, then an ftp is easy. I might try writing a PowerShell script just for fun.
