Display doesn't work!

I just received the AcuRite Atlas as a gift.  When I opened the box and plugged in the display there was a flash, then a flicker and then the screen went dark?  AcuRite is not working today and I couldn't find a trouble shooting section, so any suggestions are greatly appreciated.  I am guessing that the screen is toast, and they will need to send a new one, but hoping someone may have a quick suggestion for me.  Thanks in advance,  T
