Gauge Statistics??? 2 Basketball Courts? Astounding!
« on: May 19, 2013, 09:08:32 AM »
From the NASA - GPM / CoCoRaHS webinar back in February:
"All the rain gauges in the world would fit on 2 basketball courts"
 (excluding CoCoRaHS)
if I did the math right, that's 84600 four inch gauges world-wide.
CoCoRaHS this morning listed 45588 station records, or ONE + BASKETBALL COURT(s) of CoCoRaHSian gauges.
That means all the rain gauges in the world fit on 3 basketball courts, and CoCoRaHs has a third of them!"
(sadly, only 20-25% make consistent reports).
Of the 45000+ about 19000 are considered 'active', with about 50% reporting consistently).

And I wonder if the NASA guys have any idea how many of us are on this forum, and if they're counting all us 'station' operators that aren't also CoCoRaHS????

Maybe somebody ought to tell them!  :)  (or maybe even someone who reads this forum works for them)

Finally home for the summer. After a quick repair, I'm back to reporting!  :-) I feel like I perform my weather duties when I do my report :-)
