Time lapse options please?

Hi folks

What options do i have for creating a time lapse of say snow, wishful thinking i know but, ya never know :)

I already have an old Logitech pro 9000 using WD webcamcapture.

I am looking to perhaps swap that out with a newer version or swap it to use for the snow cam and get a Reolink for the normal weather cam.

Problem i have with Reolink and using it with other software is the dropouts but thats using android tinyCam Pro on tablets.

I do like the Reolink for night time (low light) it is very good in that respect hence why i have been toying with the idea, just not sure what that will be like as an IP camera in WD's webcamcapture, would rather not have the dropouts and just use a webcam.

It looks like i can run the original Logitech software for the Pro 9000 and the new Logi Tune at the same time so there shouldn't be any conflicts if i go that route.

Sorry, just thinking out aloud, been toying with this idea for a couple of years lol

Anyhoo, back to the time lapse, ideally i would like it viewable online too, so a fairly constant upload as its recording. any thoughts, please?

I'm using IPTimeLapse.  It uses the RTSP stream of your camera to take a picture every "X" seconds.  I chose to go to three seconds.  You can overlay your live weather data too.  Out of the box it does WD file format.  I'm sure you could do Cumulus quite easily as well.

After that, you can program IPTL to make a time lapse of that collection of pictures.  Lots of options on how you want to generate that video.

IPTL also has a live stream to YouTube option as well.

My site doesn't get a huge amount of traffic.  So a constant video stream to YouTube for me was over kill.  I didn't feel the need to consume that much stream bandwidth for 10 or 20 views a day.

I have a sub site of https://iptl.bismarckweather.net setup.  I have GoDaddy and made a DNS entry that points to my home weather PC's NGINX webserver.  Then IPTL creates the picture in the web folder.  I then have a PHP script that opens that picture file every three seconds from that location.  So my page is "near" real time.  In reality, delayed about 10 seconds.  Good enough for me.

At 11:30 PM every night, IPTL creates a timelapse video for me.  I have my video hard set to 2 minutes thirty seconds.  It starts 10 minutes before sunrise, stops 20 minutes after sunset.  My camera points towards the setting sun, so I like to get those sunsets.  I have the video also on my subsite.  So by 11:35pm when the file is created, you can see the video from my site.  The next morning, I upload the video to YouTube manually.  YT doesn't give you a nice and easy automated way to do it.  So I've had to stick with manual there.  But now YT is my free video storage.

IPTL has been rock solid reliability.  I've been running it since Memorial day roughly.  I've only emailed the IPTL creator a couple of times, but he's was really good to work with.  Well worth the money for me.

Hi, thanks ever so much for the informative reply, you've got a nice setup there. 4608 width is really sommat...
I have looked at the duo a few times but i cannot see enough of the sky unless I roof mount it and I really don't want to go that route as this is a rented property.

I have downloaded IPT but i don't think i cant justify the £149 just for a snow cam, heck, i might not even see any, its really hit and miss here, i think we saw a sprinkle for the last couple of years but this year i am hoping El Nino is gonna chuck sommat this way so I've set up a table with a 2ft () gauge in the hopes of at least a few cm lol thanks again :)

That's a beauty of a view you have & that 180degree is outstanding especially with what seems like a great price-point. I imagine it's compatible w/ BlueIris software?

Also a very nice looking part of town you're in!

I posted how I set up my Reolink RLC-510A with IPTimelapse here: https://www.wxforum.net/index.php?topic=43546.msg443473#msg443473 and here are links to a still image (https://novawx.dscloud.me/wxcam.php), time lapse (https://novawx.dscloud.me/wxcam-lapse.php), and live (https://novawx.dscloud.me/wxcamlive.php) via YouTube on my website. There's also an archive in the Weather Cam menu of each day's time lapse going back to Feb 2022 if you want to look at summer versus winter, rain, snow, sunny, cloudy, night, day......IPTimelapse has options for displaying weather overlays from different sources like Weather Display, CWOP, Weather Underground, nearby METAR, etc.
