Can I run both Cumulus and Cumulus MX in tandem?
« on: January 18, 2020, 03:18:56 PM »
I'd like to try MX if I could.  My AmbientWeather console is connected via USB to the PC.  Can both read from it simultaneously?

No, but they could run alternately. Assuming you have a logger then each instance will catch-up from where it left off.

OK, thanks, I'll just install it on another computer and use my other console.

If you have more than 1 console I believe you can run two or more.
On one computer I run Cumulus1 with Envoy/USB, CumulusMX with Vue console/WiFiLogger, and second CumulusMX with Ecowitt GW1000 and start this one from DOS \CumulusMX\CumulusMX.exe -port 8999

Enjoy,
Paul

Indeed, as Paul says with two consoles you can run two copies of Cumulus. Though if you run two copies of Cumulus MX on the same computer, then you will have to change the network port as per Paul's message.

Can't you do this if you also have WLL?

Use MX to pull from WLL and cumulus to pull from your logger.

Yes, sure - WLL is essentially just another (albeit enhanced) receiver type. But remember that WLL uses a completely different API from the traditional loggers and so any software taking a data feed from WLL would need to be using WLL-compatible software. So CumulusMX would be OK but not Cumulus for the WLL feed.
