WS68 Surgery
« on: March 12, 2023, 02:06:08 PM »
My trusty WS68 bit the dust a few weeks ago

I suspect the capacitor, can anyone tell me if repair is a feasible option?

I have replaced with a WS80 but it would be nice to have a comparator if possible

Hi,
Can you describe the symptoms, are you receiving nothing from it?, Some sensors on the array? etc...

Also how old is the unit?

nothing even with new batteries means a total failure - otherwise, if it were only the supercapacitor or the solar panel, it should still work and send some sensor data with new batteries.

I'm guessing you have done the hard reset of the unit, remove batteries, stick unit in dark place (like a box) for like 5 days.?

After that, I would contact support@ecowitt.net.

Based on what they say. sadly, you may have to buy another unit .

Yep, now it's down I can have a fiddle with it

Seems to be some moisture inside the sensor above the solar panel, wasn't there when I checked it in October

Do the hard reset, as I mentioned, don't get froggy and try until at least 5 days with the batteries removed. If it was water ingress, there is a chance it will either 1) dry out or 2) the hard reset will take care of it.

if the hard reset after keeping it in a dark, dry and warm place (or cover the solar panel with black tape) as @Rover1822 already suggested doesn't work, I would talk to Ecowitt support.
Ecowitt are just now alpha-testing a new protection for sensors, especially anemometers with challenging exposure (e.g. close to the seaside) against humidity and corrosion.
They may offer you a trial "package" - or/and even exchange your array.

I think you'll have to watch this thread  starting from - https://www.wxforum.net/index.php?topic=45064.msg457746#msg457746
from their announcement Ecowitt won't send the test kit out before beginning of April - see reply #50, same thread
