WS-5000-Stuck High Temp
« on: March 03, 2023, 04:15:59 PM »
Hello all,
I have been loving my station.  This afternoon I came home and the temp is stuck at 108.5 which is not what we are experiencing here in appalachia.  Anyway, is there anything I should do to correct this?  I unplugged the monitor and that didn't change anything.  All other sensors seem to be working.  I unplugged the heater to see if maybe that was malfunctioning, but so far hasn't changed the temp.  Any ideas?

Is the temperture actually coming from an external sensor ?
HP2550 console 1.8.7 firmware  , WS80 weather station , WH57 lightning sensor , WH40 rain gauge , WH51 soil moisture sensor , GX1100 gateway 2.2.1 firmware

try a reset of the outdoor array
1st
soft reset by using the reset button (see manual)
if this doesn't work, try
2nd the
hard reset:
- remove batteries
- put black tape tightly on the top portion so no light can reach the solar sensor and panel
- let the sensor array "die" = wait until the blue LED stops blinking (can take up to 72 hours)
- then re-insert the batteries

Thank you,
I will give it a soft reset first (after the rain stops)

by the way - the heater will only start running when the temperature falls down to 0° C/ 32° F and stops again when the temperature gets higher than +3° C/ 38°F again.
(unless you have a very new WS80/WS-5000 ARRAY hardware revision where the power supply can feed the whole array permanently when connected; still the heater reacts the same way - not sure if Ambient sell(s) this version already)

I tried the soft and the hard reset and it is still coming up at 108.5 degrees which is the same thing as of yesterday.  I have also unplugged the console and reset that but to no avail.  Any other ideas? Also, all other sensor appear to be operating appropriately.  I will probably contact ambient on Monday.  I sure hope this isn't broken, I've only had it for a little over a year.
I did know that about the heater, but I thought I'd unplug it in case it was malfunctioning.

you did a hard reset in such a short time ...?
(looking at the time stamps of your posts)
you are sure the supercapacitor of the sensor array was completely discharged ??
By experience this tends to take longer ...
But be it as you say ...
If a proper and complete hard reset didn't do the job, then possibly the T/RH sensor is either defective or loose (virbations, wind ...). If you are still inside the warranty period, contact Ambient for replacement;  outside the warranty I would contact Ecowitt (the manufacturer) via support@ecowitt.com and ask if they can provide a replacement sensor or kit.
If you have a newer hardware revision model of the array, the sensor can be exchanged by "plug-and-play".

Outside warranty I would first open/remove the radiation shield (should be two screws) and check if the connector of the T/RH sensor cable is sitting tightly and see if pressing it tightly into its socket will create a change.
Otherwise I'd contact first Ambient and if not successful Ecowitt. This part of the array is still seller independent and is not affected by the Ambient "firmware lock". So if Ambient cannot and Ecowitt can provide a solution, it should work.

On their instruction videos it says to pull the batteries out and put it in a dark place or cover the solar panel until the LED stops flashing.  It stopped reporting to my station and the LED had stopped flashing...should I wait longer?

that's +/- the same what I said...
and if it stopped blinking and did no longer transmit to the console, the that was it.
If this didn't help, then go by the other suggestions I made.
