I actually had an email from Ecowitt inviting me to fill in their questionnaire for this, which I've done and now wait to see what happens. AFAIK I'm not a member of that Facebook group. I did wonder initially if it was spam but checked it out carefully first  8-)

I recieved an e-mail that I'm selected. What about others?

The info I have is that the first batch of shipments will only be the IoT smart water valve.
The Smart plug switch is still under development and will be arranged in the second batch of shipments.
The IoT smart water valve will be shipped within 20 days.

Ecowitt wrote in the Facebook group (Ecowitt family): [770 out of ~1.600 members applied]
"We have received a total of over 770 responses to the questionnaire, and we are very grateful for your taking it seriously. We are deeply moved. After carefully reading all the responses, Ecowitt managed to secure as many Beta Test devices as possible for you.
96 IoT smart water valve volunteers and 69 Smart plug switch volunteers are selected. ....."
so about 20% of the applicants were chosen - most (96) for the smart water valve, then 69 for the smart switch and 8 for both.
Ecowitt will start with the smart switch ...

I think/hope I知 allowed to say I知 selected for the smart plug test. Interested to see what they致e come up with, especially in such an already crowded market.

I think the idea is to extend their already rich mostly weather related sensor portfolio by more IoT related general sensors. They made already an approach into the gardening and agriculture area (soli moisture, soil temperature, water temperature) and are now targeting more general purposes. A water valve can be used for timings of irrigation systems. A general intelligent switch for many other purposes.
Basic functionality will be switch on/off based on scheduling (multiple on/offs daily for selected time windows, the same on selected weekdays etc.[ as it's already known for electrical timers]) and sensor thresholds (temperature, humidity, soil moisture, solar radiation, rainfall ...).

But I think they want to do it not just for the IoT related sensors alone but in combination what they already have (--> triggers).
That can give added value.
The console firmware will need to get extended for this and I think that the gateway consoles (GW1100/GW2000) will become the "cockpit"

I never saw this in time but they just mailed me their new T/H kit that protects the sensor from the salty air here. Actually they sent the entire rain gauge component to replace on the HP2561 that I finally received yesterday. I'm leaving the island in a week so I won't test it till I get back in mid May. Anyways I get to beta test that thanks to you guys!!

My email is in the list. I'm selected to test Smart plug switch, but I don't recive anything in my email. Is it normal? Or its only just because The Smart plug switch is still under development and will be arranged in the second batch of shipments. For this, it's pobably to send they me an email in the next few weeks?

Somebody is in the same situation?

Thanks. I'm so excited to test this new IoT to the ecowitt ecosystem

Have to concur, sure would be nice the able to use this good measuring setup by Ecowitt to control different aspects in my home and yard...  And also making it then possible to gather even these devices information to the same measurement gathering that we already have.

Right now I sure would want to see a smart plugin that could besides power measurement (ex heater, cooler) be controlled by another device, like the WH 31 temp and/or humidity measurement.

  • WH51 Wireless Soil Moisture Sensor
