Ambient has never locked themselves into one manufacturer. They , when they were their own company, sold Davis, other stations etc. Part of  the reason there is that link in the top of the forum about not all Ambients are Fine Offset.

in 2019 , Ambient Weather was bought by nielsen-kellerman.

reference https://ambientweather.com/nielsen-kellerman-acquires-ambient-weather

They state they will include Kestrel, well, because the parent company now owns that.

Ambient's price is the same as if a person goes directly to Kestrel Instruments:
https://kestrelinstruments.com/kestrelmet-6000-weather-station

They're just selling them through the Ambient website now.  In case you weren't aware, and as Rover1822 just posted, Nielsen-Kellerman owns Ambient Weather, RainWise, Kestrel Instruments, and other brands.

I personally would not buy a weather station that has the WiFi interface located with the sensor array.  I prefer they use a longer-range RF signal to a receiver ethernet/wifi gateway.

I wouldn't buy a $1300 weather station, I'd probably build my own first.

I get that, but it is a different market as well.

I assume the quality would be better, least I hope so, but also depends on what you need. I may moan and complain about some F/O (Ecowitt/Ambient) components, but for the most part (ignore the WS90), satisfy my needs at a much lower price point, with more features than one would expect (like free access to the API, and ability to do something with the data).

Other words, I am OK with what I have, I'm not some weather GURU, I started into this with just the desire for the basic numbers, with some kind of realistic accuracy. I'm not one to get the best, just what I need. For me this still makes sense, also, fun.

I have recommended configurations for some of my friends , then again, we are not running airports or other critical infrastructure, etc. All fun

In short, I agree with you kheller2, for my needs

A similar thing in Europe, where Froggit in Germany (www.froggit.de) is the main European Fine Offset / Ecowitt rebrander.
Their portfolio is not exclusively Ecowitt based but mainly. 1 - 2 rebranded CLC Stations can also be found.
They are selling the latest stations like GW2001 (=GW2000 + WS90) as DP2000 or HP2564 (=HP2560 console + WS90) as HP2000
as do WeatherSpares in the UK, WeatherSpares all under the Ecowitt brand and names - and have often competitive prices compared to the Ecowitt store at amazon.de.
Matrix updated.  8-)
