I went to ecowitt.net and my settings via the browser (also on the smartphone), copied my API key and App key (one after the other) in the clipboard and then pasted it into the SmartMixin app.
Worked well. From inside the SmartMixin app there were some issues.

Weird, I don't have an app key, just API

even if you connect with a normal browser  ?? (normal = on a computer) - might be an app depiction issue

I don't remember exactly how it was when I created them.
Also possible that there is a separate step for each key. (can't see this anymore as it's already done)

otherwise, as you are obviously not using both it somewhere else (e.g. CumulusMX for history reload), you could just delete the existing key and start the process again from scratch.
By preference in a normal browser.

On the API section, click create. There will be a drop-down selector with either API key and Application key. Select Application key.

I had just come back to post that i'd just found that when i was just about to create a new API key that there was a drop list and that i had to create another key and thats when I realised that you have to create them separately, i totally missed that it was a drop list when i 1st created the API key, I think that i must have seen API and stupidly assumed that it would create both at the same time, thanks for bearing with my folks :)

I've been trying to create an Ecowitt Api key and App key since yesterday and continue to get "The Network is busy.  Please try again later".  Is anyone else having this issue?  I've tried with different browsers on the PC, and also on my Android phone with the same error message.  I guess it's an issue on the Ecowitt server side?

it might rather be an issue with their CDN (content delivery network) and the CDN service provider. It has happened in the past several times. Because of the CDN you may experience issues whereas others don't as they get their content from different servers.
A DNS server issue might also be behind that. e.g. I can access my profile page without any issue.

Thanks for the reply.  I have no problem accessing my profile page.  I never made use of the Api key or App key in the past so I tried to create them.  When I try to save the keys, I get the busy server message.  Either way, I guess I'll keep trying and hopefully they fix the issue.  I was just wondering if anyone else was having the same issue.

some weather application software like Weather Display or CumulusMX use them already to download historical data of your station from the Ecowitt cloud. As a general (permanent) feed (Weather Display) or for restore reasons and closing gaps when the data logger wasn't running 24/7 for whatever reason (CumulusMX).

So, are you saying if one of these other programs is using the Api it won't allow you to create an Api or App key?  I'm not well versed on how all this works, but I'm still not able to create the keys.  I haven't used this new GW2000 with either CumulusMX or Weather display.  I did experiment with Cumulus MX awhile back with my GW1000, and both are tied to the same Ecowitt account, could that be the issue?  How do I fix the issue?

No, that was just an example. There may be a limitation regarding the number of applications using an app key though, but you won't probably reach that number

when you don't have either an Ecowitt API key nor an Ecowitt App key, CMX cannot be tied to your Ecowitt account. What you probably mean (guessing) is that CMX received its data from your GW1000. This has nothing to do with an API/App key. So nothing to fix here.

When your Ecowitt console sends data into the Ecowitt cloud (to your Ecowitt account), CMX versions > build 3172 are able to retrieve (backfill) data from there when you configure this in CMX. E.g. if you shut down CMX and restart it next morning or a few days later, it can download the data that have been sent to the Ecowitt cloud by your console in between. For this to work you need your API and App keys.

How to create the APP and API keys for your Ecowitt account ?
1. log in to your dashboard - there you can see the current data which your console has been sending to your account. The black tiles.
2. once logged in, there is a Hamburger symbole in the top left corner to open the menu and your name and picture (may be a generic one if you never uploaded a photo here) in the top right corner.
[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]
When you hover with your mouse over the picture, a menu with four items appears- The top item says "user profile". That's what you have to choose. This will take you to the following screen.
[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]
Here you have to click on the "Create" button. You have to do this twice: once for the API key and once you have created it once more for the App key.
3. create API key
[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]
you can choose a name for your API key - in the picture it's just something I wrote - you can choose your own text - SAVE !
4. create an App key (open the drop down menu, arrow down symbol, where it says API ke and select "application key" - SAVE !
[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]
5. once you have created both, your profile page will look like this (with the names you gave to your keys)

Thanks for the Cumulus explanation.  I have no problem finding the page to create the keys.  The problem is when I click "Create", the page says: "The system is busy.  Please try again later"

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

I'm not sure what the issue is.  I've tried several times over the last few days and continue to get the same message.  I've tried on multiple web browsers on a couple of different PC's and on my Android phone app as well with the same results.  Maybe it is an issue on Ecowitts' end.

correct - this points at an issue at either the server end or the network (internet and remote local network). Maybe try after 4-5 hours from now - this will be late night in China.

Actually to be clear, the "network is busy" notification comes after I try to "Save" the named key, not when I click "Create".

in a client-server architecture you may perform certain tasks which are not (yet) database related without issues while the database access for saving data (=writing to the database) may be overloaded. So that's why the message may come that late.

Hi!

A wish for SmartMixin:
I would like to be able to display not only the hourly precipitation in the widget (Android), but also the daily precipitation.

That way I would have a quick view in the evening of how much it rained during the day.
Can you please integrate this?
Thank you very much!

Oliver

If one can express wishes ....
I'd like to see see the daily 24h charts also for Soil Moisture, WH45 sensors (pm2.5, pm10, CO2) and WH31 extra sensors - that would be great !  :-)

Hi Oliver,

Daily precipitation has been added as a widget metric some time ago (sorry for the late reply).

Best regards,

Hi,

I’m running into issues adding ecowitt in the app on my iPhone. Have managed to paste in the api and application key but not able to hit the connect button as it’s rendering after the end of the screen, I am able to drag the screen to get it to show but as soon as I let go it snaps back down and I am not able to hit it.

There is a layout issue on this screen (sorry ). I fixed it (v1.39.2), the application is currently in review in the Apple Store. If you have an Android device, the release is already live. I will let you know once Apple publishes the update (it usually takes around 24 hours).

Best regards,
Vincent

Lots of new features have landed to the SmartMixin application recently.

  • Additional sensors are now supported (indoor sensors, Air quality, additional temperature/humidity sensors, soil, leaf wetness,...).
  • New reports (heat-index/wind chill/humidex vs temperature, dew point vs temperature, wind run)
  • Observation summary with plenty of additional information of the current weather and derviated metrics
