I decided to add the WH31L to my Ambient WS-2000 station and have been debating about where to install it. I would like to have it outside rather than inside, but understand it is not weather proof. I have an extra WH31E temp/humidity sensor installed in a shady spot inside an Acu-Rite radiation shield. I wanted this so I could track whether I was getting radiant heat temperature spikes on the main array which is mounted on a post about 3.5 feet above a wood privacy fence. Anyway, there is extra room inside the radiation shield so I decided to see if I could use it to house both the WH31E and the WH31L. The WH31E is hanging from the center but there was still room to attach the WH31L to the inside edge of the housing with a zip tie. This is hanging about 110' from the house and so far I have not had any problem with signal loss. I am using Lithium AA batteries in both sensors. I taped up the WH31L in the plastic bag it was shipped in before attaching it with the zip tie, so it should be pretty well protected from the elements.
I don't know if this will work out or if it is a good idea to have two sensors so close together... if not it will be easy to remove the WH31L and try a different location. So far we have not had any lightning to test it with. I have not picked up any false strikes or interference but I have only had it up for a day. Time will tell I guess.
