According to my measuring it should be a 1.5mm pitch connector ( jst zh, you can find here: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/33011654942.html?spm=a2g0o.productlist.0.0.257d163cjxRJOT&algo_pvid=f47749c2-4413-415f-8d6a-5144b3a1cba5&algo_exp_id=f47749c2-4413-415f-8d6a-5144b3a1cba5-0&pdp_ext_f=%7B%22sku_id%22%3A%2267056855893%22%7D )
When resoldering pay attention to orientation.

The new sensor I received contain an hall effect sensor in place of the reed

Perfect! JST connectors are on the way - thanks for the link!
Interesting photo of new design board.
Thanks for all the help.

Thanks for all the help.

Just to recap: I replaced the reed switch on the Osprey rain gauge PCB but the 4 pin JST connector wires broke as I was reinstalling the board - they looked a bit corroded. In any case, these are fragile so when you are removing the rain gauge unit from the Osprey array try to make sure these delicate connections are not taking up the whole weight of the rain gauge.

It took a leisurely 5 weeks but the JST ZH connectors (these are pre-crimped cables with a JST connector) have arrived and I managed to solder those tiny little wires. Does it work? Absolutely!

A hat tip to davidefa for:

1. correctly identifying the problem (reed switch)
2. correctly identifying the type of connector/cable required

Molte grazie.
