Data Software
« on: January 26, 2016, 05:49:05 PM »
I can get around computers fairly well -- I'm no genius but it doesn't scare me either.

But I guess I can be easily confused and the options are overwhelming.

For my purposes, easy access to data from a Davis VPro2 unit -- the MeteoBridge seems like the easy choice because I don't want my PC running 24/7 just to log weather data.  Now  I don't get the nuances between MB and MB Pro and then Belfryboy's data logger and add to that the need (in some cases) additional hardware/software from Davis. Do I need or want a Davis console?

First, am I on the right track?  Second what is the required hardware to upload data to the internet from the Pro2.

You need a logger - Bellfry Boy's , Davis' OEM or some other version to get the data from your console out to the receiving device.  MB uses a reflashed cheap router whereas the MB Pro can actually completely replace your Davis console (via built-in Meteostick Davis receiver).  Software between the two - MB to MBP is pretty similar.  If you need a Davis console then costs are about a wash.  All depends on what you want to do with the system.  FWIW, I run a couple stations with Meteobridge and you can do A LOT with it for about a hundred bucks.  Of course there are other options like running MeteoHUB on a Raspberry Pi but you did not ask about that.  ;)

Yes, I was thinking about the RaspPi.  But let me clear up one point...Do I need the logger if I go with the MB Pro?

The Davis console looks old and outdated  (from pictures) and I can't imagine that I wouldn't rather be using my phone of other computing device instead of the console.

It seems that the MB Pro replaces (combines) the logger, the software and Pi all into one part.  The simplicity seems worth it to this novice but I here to learn.

Correct.  MB Pro with the Davis option (red) gives you all that.

A Davis option at a little less cost is to get the Envoy rather than the full console.

Enjoy,
Paul

So, envoy is cheaper option instead of console -- ok got that

So after the VP2, i need the envoy, then the logger and then the meteo bridge on a Rasppi?

But MB pro does everything all rolled into one and replaces all of the above??

The Envoy will be redundant.  Plus it adds almost no value IMHO

So what is the required hardware setup for Meteo (non-pro)?

ISS > Console > Logger > USB Hub > Meteobridge

Can I substitute the Envoy for the Console?
If Davis logger -- which one USB or IP? Does it matter?

IMNSHO the WLIP is  for someone who does not want a PC in the mix AT ALL and does not want the flexibility of other softwares and thinks weatherlink.com is useful.  YMMV
