New 2551 not connecting to WU
« on: July 19, 2019, 08:59:29 AM »
Just got my 2551 from ecowitt.  Overall I am very pleased, the look and feel is way nicer than the acurite I'm replacing.   I am having two issues with it, however.

First, no barometric reading.  It just shows --.-

Second, I cannot get it to connect to WU.  The acurite on the same WiFi network is connecting fine.  The console is connected to WiFi and getting time updates, so I know it's connected.  Station ID and password are correct.  It's KFLNICEV44 If it matters.  42 is my 5n1 (broken and inaccurate as it is).

Anyone have any suggestions on either of these issues?  If contacted Lucy and she is working with me, but i figured there are some experts here that may be able to set me straight.

Barometric issue might be that you don't have a WH32B (or WH25)....answered in this thread:
https://www.wxforum.net/index.php?topic=37088.msg385586#msg385586

For the WU not uploading issue try changing your WU station form other to Ambient WS-2000 (its the same as your WH2551).

Another thing to try since you just got the WH2551 make sure it has the latest firmware. There are two firmwares for the WH2551 (WS-2000). There is a Revision Firmware that you upgrade via micro SD card that you must download with your computer and put on the card to then take over the console. The other firmware is called the WiFi Firmware and that is done with the WS View mobile app. Just run the WS View app and it will find the console and offer you to upgrade to the latest version.

Download the Revision Firmware from:

Product page clearly states that barometric pressure sensor is in the console.  I'll bring it up to Lucy, as they need to correct that.  I feel like they owe me a sensor now.

The ecowitt WH32 is only temp and humidity,I have several connected already.  Will the ambient 32b work with the ecowitt console?

Well I didn't want to give you too much information to not confuse you. I said nothing of the WH32. I said WH32B. They are not the same thing.

Yes an Ambient WH32B will work. You can use an Ambient sensor with an Ecowitt console.  But you can't do the opposite...you can't use an Ecowitt sensor with an Ambient console.

Ecowitt does not show the WH32B on their website because they don't want people buying it and thinking they are the same thing as a WH31 or WH32. They assume that if you have a console that needs a barometric sensor that you would have purchased it as part of a complete station....which would include the WH32B. Since you can only have one WH32B there is no need to list the WH32B as a separate purchase. I know what you are thinking, what do you do if yours breaks?.....well you contact them and they sell you one. These things don't exactly have the best model numbers given to them.

The WH32B does not have a channel dip switch changer as it only works on one given channel....the main channel for the consoles indoor temperature/humidity and it include the barometric pressure.

That's the frustrating part,I bought all this directly from than through Lucy.  Since it's not on their site, and the site claims the sensor is built into the console, you would never no l know you needed a 32B.

I don't want to sound like I'm bashing them.  I'm still very pleased with the system and Lucy had been extremely responsive.  The personal customer support is a huge plus in my book.  But it is frustrating.

WU issue solved.  I had redone the WU registration thinking there was a problem there (now KFLNICEV45) . There was a conflict between the password on WS view and what I entered in the console.  For some reason WS view kept reverting to the previous password.  Closing out the app fully and restarting allowed the correct information to save.  Not sure why it didn't work initially, but it is now.

Pressure reading issue now fixed as well.  My public apology to Lucy and the folks at Ecowitt.  They did include a WH31B.  The confusion is that their are not labeled as reading pressure and look EXACTLY like the WH31.  Since I had ordered 4 31, I only hooked up four even though there were 5 in the package.  Just so happens that last one was the 31B.  Feel a little silly, but it is what it is.

All's well that ends well!

I did think to mention that there is no obvious external marking other than in the battery box which does not have a DIP switch to select the channels. Also of course once powered the display does cycle through barometric pressure which the other WH31 do not.

You did mention it, I was expecting it to say " temperature, humidity, pressure" as in the photos of the 31B.  It does not.  It said"temperature, humidity" just like the rest.  I didn't bother looking inside.  Ah well, all's good

Interesting that the Ecowitt version does not say " temperature, humidity, pressure" because the Ambient version does clearly have this marking. Also I see you are calling it a 31B and not a 32B as that is what Ambient calls it. Please confirm it does in fact say 31B (WH31B) on it.

Interestingly i couldn't find a model number on it anywhere.  I'll look again when I get home, maybe it's in the battery compartment.  The temp/humidity are WH31 from ecowitt.  She didn't give a model for the pressure and just called it the pressure sensor.  I'll look again this weekend (out on business this week).

I don't believe there are any markings on the actual device.
As far as I recall the only way you could tell was the sticker on the box they came in.

Obviously once powered you can tell as the barometer pressure is displayed on a cycle which the others do not do.
