CWOP Error standard deviation

(1/1)

Bob65:
Greetings,
Can't find much that I can understand on this. Using relative humidity
again, the quality control checks say that the average dewpoint error
is -0.4 deg and the Error standard deviation is 2.8 deg.
If I can better understand this, I can take some action, maybe?
Thanks, Bob

Bob,
I hope someone that knows the answer to your question will hop in but I feel I'm in a similar situation so I'll give you my opinion. You are in good shape. You only have 1 station (an uncalibrated newbie) within 20 miles of you. If you are being compared to stations that could and probably do have substantially different conditions than you do, I don't think you should get your shorts in a twist if CWOP bestows the big red X on you. I would suggest getting a Psychrometer (See http://tobaccovilleweather.com/about.htm) and know what you do have and not what CWOP thinks you ought to have before you make any offsets. Several styles of sling psychrometers can be found on ebay for under $50.00 with shipping.
FWIW
George
