Hi Derek,

Are you sure? You're only getting gusts of up to 3.0 mph at the moment! :)

Yeah, this thing is so big and powerful it's set up some unique conditions

.ANALYSIS AND UPPER LEVELS...THE BIG STORY ON THE CURRENT WEATHER MAP IS THE LARGE LOW IN THE NORTHWEST GULF OF ALASKA. THE LOW DEEPENED TO 950 MB WEDNESDAY MORNING AND HAS NOW WEAKENED TO 970 MB THIS AFTERNOON.

A TROUGH EXTENDS NORTHWARD OUT OF THIS LOW INTO THE INTERIOR OF THE STATE WHICH IS KEEPING MOST OF SOUTH CENTRAL ALASKA OUT OF THE STRONG WINDS.

Got lucky this time, but I'll take whatever I can get - otherwise I'm sure I would have been out spending yet another weekend strapping down everything on my deck. The break has given me a chance to get the roofers out and fix up some damage from the last go around. But the folks just on the other side of the mountains from me are still getting hammered with torrential rain.

Supposedly though when this system clears out it will cut off the warm tropical flow and cool things off around here real quick. They are even predicting the first snow up here at my place Sat Nite into Sun Morning.

Looks like an lot of the storms I posted on here coming into SE. Alaska or the one that when up the Bering sea last November.

Typical deep North Pacific low. Sail thru an lot of them.

Snowing right now at my place. About six inches on the ground and still coming down. However I'm hearing there could be another round of rain/wind storms next week.

Hi Derek,

Yer, some nice white scenery on your webcams. Still, it says it's raining. LOL :)

That's because I have a heated rain bucket, so it's measuring the liquid equivalent of the snow.

So this is now the second week of clear old conditions brought on by the High Pressure system parked over Alaska - with up to another week in the forecast. It's been my observation that once these blocking patterns move on, all hell tends to break loose - with the strength of the ensuing storm systems seemingly directly proportional to the intensity and persistence of the previous high.

Today, my station just record an all time record high of 30.529" since I started keeping records in 2007.

Late October/November typically marks the start of the really strong storm season here anyway. I have a feeling this November is going to be a ******!
